EMI will be releasing a 5 CD set of the complete Matt Munro singles on January 18th.

A prodigious amount of hard work and care has been put into it to ensure that the correct versions have been used every time. And you will be unlikely to find anything to criticise about the mastering.

You'll find the correct versions of From Russia With Love and Softly As I Leave You being used for the first time on CD.

HMV.COM are doing it at the unbelievable price of £8.99 including free p&p to the UK.

Thank you for the listing. I'm on this. Just ordered it from HMV.com since I couldn't order it yet from sources here in the States. HMV now lists the release date as Jan 25.

Now if we can just get Steve Hoffman to remaster the 1962 Parlophone Matt Monro Sings Hoagy Carmichael, I would be delighted. It is a combination of wonderful sound plus great arrangements and a voice in its prime.

Yeah I saw it mentioned earlier today on the Matt Monro site, when I googled and found the HMV deal at that price I figured I should order it straight away.

  6. I'm with you on that.

According to Michelle Monro on her fathers site, this album will be released as a stand alone CD later in the year, along with other products including another 2 on 1 cd collection. I suspect the remastering will be done as usual by Richard Moore who does all the MM releases of the last few years all of which sound pretty good to me, he also has his own section on the Matt Monro site.

Great, I've been wanting to hear his version of 'Isn't It A Pity' for years.

And by the way, it's Monro not Munro ;)

  9. That's terrific news too - I've just gone over to that site and registered. God knows why I had never thought of doing that before. Looks a pretty good site.

A truly great singer that even Sinatra liked.

Monro was an excellent vocalist. I had many of his hit singles on Parlophone, way back in the early 1960s.

  12. Having had a little time now to explore the site run by Michelle Monro, I would really recommend anyone with any interest in Matt Monro's work to go to the site and have a good look at what is on offer.

Of particular interest is the 'Ask Richard' section, where Richard Moore, whoi, as mentioned above, doe the MM releases, will answer questions put to him.

Span some Matt this afternoon - what a terrific voice and delivery the man had.

    Best Wishes

While we're on the subject of MM, this has always been a favourite since it came out.

Anyone work out the meaning behind it - I read it as either a 60s revolutionary call to arms (which is a little unlikely I admit) or something to do with spreading religion.

    Any thoughts?

  14. MM used to introduce it as his 'only protest song' - I think 'call to arms' hits the mark rather than anything to do with religion.

The lyrics hint at a possible 'feminist' protest but suggest confusion on the part of at least one of the three named protagonists.

    Great song, splendidly performed.

A great voice. I've always liked his version of "All My Loving".

Just had an email from hmv.com that it's on its way to me - £8.99 including postage - so it should be with me by the end of the week.

Very cool. Remember that his early EMI work was produced by George Martin, much of it concurrently with The Beatles' productions.

After somebody gets this new set, please post if it has that dreaded computer copy guard on it, like his last 'collection" had. I'm not about to lose a good computer over a Matt Monro CD.

That's great, if true? I play my CD's in a machine, usually my Marantz Universal player or my new Oppo upgraded BDP-83, but I will eventually add some of this music into my i-Tunes library in my computer, for playback in my computer and on my i-Pod's. Just seeing that side-triangle copy protected logo, scares the you-know-what, out of me.
