I have always really enjoyed Focal speakers but I am not familiar with Lumen. What is it about the Lumen you prefer over your previous Focal or other Focal floorstanding speakers in the same budget range as the Lumen.

Thanks guys, i'm really happy with the speakers.

    @ mwheelerk:
I always missed the bottom end with the Micro Utopia BE. Resolutionwise the Beryllium tweeter and the Thiel ceramic tweeter are very close. Which one i like better depends on what i'm listening to. The Micro Utopia BE are great speakers too and i'm reluctant to sell them.

Before the purchase i did an A/B(/C) comparison with the Lumen White Silverflame, Focal Scala Utopia (which retail for a little less than the Lumen) and Audiodata Avancé (which cost less than half of what the Lumen cost).

The Silverflame and Scala Utopia are a close call... i find the Silverflame to be more dynamic than the Scala Utopia and i also think they look better (IMHO Floorstanding Utopia III speakers start looking good with the Maestro Utopia. That is in reality, i like all of them in the pictures on the website.). Also the Lumen White sound just a little bit more "real" to me. It's more music and less "speaker", but this is complaining on a very high level. The Scala Utopia are also excellent speakers.

The Audiodatas could not really keep up with the other two, but they are a different price range and i also found them to be rather warm speakers which is not really my cup of tea. Not quite B&W or Sonus Faber warm, but still warm.

I hop that i could help you with my explanation, if not feel free to PM me.

    Fabian

  6. Lumen White is the name of the Swiss speaker manufacturer. I am not sure if they have a U.S. distributor.

Nice setup but folks beware clicking on those images, it was pop-up city for a while after I closed that site...it was all in German so I know it came from there. I get so tired of all these hosting sites trying to put adware and malware on my machine.

Their research and development is done in Lucerne, that is correct. The Speakers are actually made in Austria. (And then they do something in Monaco and London...i keep forgetting what it is, it's complicated).

I'm sorry for that . I only get one pop-up when i click. Do you know a hoster where there are no pop-ups?

When you write Lucerne, do you mean Luzern Switzerland?

That is surprise for me, since I thought everything was done in Austria.

Never too late to learn something new:thumbsup:

  11. I didn't have any problems with the site--one little popup. Then again, I am using a Mac.

I guess you like Pioneer equipment.

  17. Right, you got a popup at the site, but your computer wasn't infected by adware or malware, as another poster suggested, because currently there are no adware or malware programs that infect Macs. No viruses, either. There are a few scattered trojans here and there that are easily avoided--just avoid dubious websites (i.e., pirated software or pornography) and you'll be fine.

My system has evolved further since l last posted some photos, the rather superb Kuzma Stabi XL2 has made a grand entrance and killed off my interest in CD almost entirely

Very nice setup Mondie, one of my friends had a Stabi XL on loan for a while with the linear tracking arm and he enjoyed it. I wish I could have heard it.

How do you like the Bent Audio preamp? I am a big fan of autoformer/transformer volume controls.

NICE setup Mondie and a beautiful room too. I know the ADAM but what are those smaller black speakers and do you use them? (looking for something to put my Micro Utopia BE to use ;) )

    BTW: Nick Cave :righton:

    Hi Deepak,

l have been using TVC's for about 5 years and still find them preferable to my tastes. l hope to try out a few valve pre amps soon to see how the big ADAM's go with a bit of valve goodness, just a bit of an experiment more than anything. The transparency and imaging from the TVC is pretty addictive and l can assure you there is no lack of dynamics

Those are ADAM Pencils, a great speaker in their own right but overshadowed by their much bigger brothers.

    Cheers,
    mondie
