I see some upcoming Verve SACD's on the Analogue Productions website that are available for preorder on Acoustic Sounds. Namely:

Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto - Getz and Gilberto
Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd - Jazz Samba
Billie Holiday - Songs For Distingue Lovers
Billie Holiday - All Or Nothing At All
Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges - Side By Side

What's the story with these? Who's mastering them? When are they coming?

Hmmm...are any of these 3-channel options? Jazz Samba, for instance, was done straight to 2-track "on location," and I seem to recall that DISTINGUE LOVERS exists only in mono and a stereo mixdown tape.

I hope we finally get the original version of this album on disc in good quality.

Too many remixes, botched remasters, bright EQ, and bad (or incorrect) source tapes to count!

    Hope they get it right.

Extremely interesting selection of forthcoming SACDs over there, suggesting that the format is anything but dead.

It will be interesting to compare the Jazz Samba SACD with the DCC gold.

I notice Westside Story by The Oscar Peterson Trio in there - one in which I will be very interested - it sets me wondering whether Night Train might be on the cards some time hence.

    The future is looking rosy.

If they master the SA's with the [IMG]audio adc like the Nat King Cole SACDs, the whole batch will be a must-buy

Hi hi...you are the only one I know buying albums because of the A/DSD converter used... :D

    What about this? :
Steve Hoffman mastering + Grimm A/DSD + SACD + SHM + Blu Spec = Heaven! ??

    Best!

    My favorite subject!

The original (=LP) version - indentified by the placement of Astrud's voice on the right channel - has been very well served so far even or hi-rez; of course new mix also was made; so, this version can be got either on original (JSACD 60th) or new mix (US SACD, SHM-SACD). What is missing widely is the "correct" placement version, i.e. Astrud on the left channel (only on one RBCD from 1995 so far and as far as I know).

From the information I have gathered so far from this forum regarding the Getz/Gilberto" LP and Cd/SACDs:

"The correct placement (on the master tape) is for Astrud to be on the left and the drums on the right. When Ami Hadani cut the ORIGINAL stereo LP master at Radio Recorders in 1963, the channels got reversed somehow and that's how engineers have been mostly doing it ever since for some reason."

"The 2004 60th Anniversary "Supreme Sound Edition" Getz/Gilberto SACD UCGU-7031 utilizes the original stereo mix whereas the 2002 Getz/Gilberto SACD is a 3-track remix." N.B.: the same goes for the SHM-SACD which uses the 2002 remix.

"- Vinyl (Original Hami Hadani): Hard Right
    - Vinyl (RVG): Hard Right
    - Vinyl Speakers Corner (Kevin): Soft Left
    - Verve original CD (early pressings 05 Matrix or under): Hard Right
    - Verve original CD (later pressings 06 Matrix or above): Soft Left
    - Verve Master Edition/Classics: Hard Right
    - Verve / Universal SACD (JP, EUR and USA I suppose): Hard Right
    - MFSL: Hard Right
    - USA SACD: Hard Right (new mix)- Japanese DSD Verve 60th Anniversary (CD/SACD): Soft Right (original mix)
    - Japanese Mini LP Verve Super Best 50 POCJ-9202 (1995): HARD LEFT "

    Let's see!

  12. The UCGU 7031 SACD would be hard to better.

I've already asked this question in another thread, but somehow it got "lost": which mix is in the "Bossa Nova Years" box set. Sounds like "hard" to me (although I couldn't say left or right without listening to it again)...

We should get the first shipment sometime this year. When I subscribed to the Impulse SACD series, it took about 18 months for me to receive the first shipment. On the Verve SACD series I am hoping that it will be under a year from the time that I subscribed, to the time that I receive the first shipment.

I think I may have to get that Wynton Kelly/Wes Montgomery "Smokin' at the Half Note"

I'm listening to it right now for the first time (the first issue CD, I think) and it is smokin' indeed.

Even though the Blue Notes and Impulses are sporadic, I still can't keep up with what they're doing now so I'm in no rush.

    Any advance on two?

If Night Train is happening, one can only hope that they used the
correct mix, with the cymbals and hi hat in the backround instead of the front.

The 97 remaster went back to the session reels where there were some issues.

The hi hat is referred to in the sleeve notes isn't it? The prominent hi hat has always been part of it for me - it seems to make it swing all the harder!

While you were dreaming, did you perhaps see AP reissuing Dean Martin's "Dream with Dean" or Dire Straits "Communique"?

A glossy magazine issued with the latest set of Impulse reissues has a page devoted to these 25 SACDs- "The Verve Series", but alas no specific release information. I'm currently subscribing to both the Blue Note and Impulse series, so I'm sure I'll get these as well. At $30/SACD, it's probably just as well that I'm not getting these at the same time as the other two series anyway...

    I'm a pre-subscriber to the Verve SACD series, and I can't wait.
