they're not gonna reissue 'Storytelling Giant' until AFTER the 'Once In A Lifetime' box goes OOP. that's it's primary raison d'etre.

It includes 5.1 mixes for all the songs and it is 24bit. I do not know the sampling rate though.

It's too bad we won't get the True Stories versions from all the performers , esp. the People Like Us by John Goodman.

Or the songs on the True Stories soundtrack.

In case anyone (who opposes DualDiscs) is wondering, I wrote to Dr. Rhino and was told that there were no plans for non-DualDiscs. Damn. Of course, even if they did release non-DualDiscs, they'd be copy-protected crap. He didn't say anything about separate releases of the discs, either, but I'd assume they will be coming at some point. They really can't expect too many people to want to invest in a whole box if they only want a few albums.

They say that there will be individual releases starting January of 2006.

If the eventual individual album releases are also DualDiscs, I'll stick and hold with the ONCE IN A LIFETIME box. No way am I buying those things.

ICE reported that the individual releases, also DualDiscs, are due 1/10/06 (first chronological half of the catalog) and 1/31/06.

Oh, well, sorry Rhino. More money for Mosaic Records or Dusty Groove.

Fantastic news. I think dual disc is a great idea, and I am glad new 5.1 mixes are coming.

"no room to include more material"? are they kidding? Rhino have pretty much made their name off of adding a extra "bonus" disc to reissues. for the price they're (over)charging for this sucker, they couldn't have tacked on a 9th disc with extra goodies as an incentive to buy the set instead of the individual discs?

The better option would have been the separate Redbook and DVD Audio discs (a la REM) IMO. But C'est La Vie

Write Rhino and let them know. That's what I did. They need to know that people aren't buying this because it's DualDisc, not because their isn't an interest.

I don't favor the idea that this catalog is on DualDIsc, but at least it's high-rez! A few years ago we (most of us) would have been complaining that it's DVD-A instead of SACD. :sigh:

So I'll settle for Dual Disc Hi-rez instead of the alternative - no hi-rez! I haven't upgraded my Pioneer 563a to the latest firmware yet - I wonder if these will work on it.

DUMB QUESTION - will I be able to CDR a safety copy for the car of the CD side?
