Welcome to the theoretical British Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame (TTBRNRHOF) YEAR THREE!

    Continued from here:

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=211577
    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=212536

Please hit the links for an explanation and background.

So far, we the fine and knowledgeable folks at SHTV inducted the following into TTBRNRHOF:

    The Beatles (89.37%)
    The Rolling Stones (85.85%)
    The Hollies (70.75%)
    Dusty Springfield (59.43%)
Cliff Richard & The Shadows (58.45%)
    The Dave Clark Five (49.76%)
    Lonnie Donegan (48.79%)
    The Searchers (44.34%)
    Gerry and The Pacemakers (43.40%)
    Petula Clark (30.92%)
    Alexis Korner (29.95%)
    Joe Meek (28.02%)
Johnny Kidd & the Pirates (20.77%)

In year three we will be covering the class of '64, a fun year, with some stellar British rock emerging. It's going to be tough though, with so many killer acts debuting this year and although some of these are long-shots, I feel like they deserve to be acknowledged at least.

You may notice that the only character from previous years who has been re-nominated is Shadow-man and guitar hero Hank Marvin. I also think its likely that many of you will wonder who the hell Delia Derbyshire is so I'll just cut to the chase: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delia_Derbyshire - obviously she rocks.

From now on (this is a work in progress), I will induct a maximum of 5 nominees per year, but only those with over 45% of the vote will be definite inductees. Less than that? Well, we'll have to see.

So, once again, thanks for taking part. Please VOTE and COMMENT and help keep this thing active and vibrant!!!

Animals, Herman's Hermits, Kinks, Manfred Mann, Yardbirds.

I'd love to vote for Peter and Gordon, Marianne Faithfull or the Zombies but I thought the five I selected were the most worthy.

Ditto, along with the Pretty Things. Though it hurts to leave out Manfred Mann and (modulo your definition of "British") Them.

I voted for Hank Marvin last time around, but I don't see any way he'll ever pull in 45%+ here.

So many good choices. Except for the four I've never heard of, all are worthy HOF material.

I voted for Animals, Kinks, Them, Yardbirds, and Zombies, which are five of my favorite acts of all time.

Hate to leave out The Honeycombs and The Pretty Things though. Or Lulu, Peter & Gordon, Herman's Hermits...

Tough to pick only five--quite a few great artists.

But, The Zombies are by far my top choice.

    No-brainers: Kinks, Zombies, Them.

More important to Brits than non-Brits realize: Lulu.

Not really famous, but would prove widely influential 40+ years later: Delia Derbyshire.

The Pretties continue to be under-appreciated, as the results of this poll show.

Yes, Wales, Scotland and Ireland will be included. I couldn't leave out Shirley Bassey and Lulu could I? :)

I wonder if any other year will be as strong as this? 1967? 1969?

This list could easily support ten legitimate HOF entries.

Looks like Them are emerging as a clear "best of the rest" entry after the huge lead of the top four.

I agree. It's an amazing year. After a few years I'm thinking about having a SUPPLEMENTAL year for the ones that got away...maybe every five or ten years.

The Pretties have to be in!!!

Dave Berry produced a couple of excellent tracks - Little Things and a super cover of My Baby Left Me.

Manfred Mann were easily in the same league as The Animals & The Zombies - the latter not really getting the success that they deserved.

But, Hank Marvin. It's a bit like singling out Ray Davies from The Kinks or John Lennon from The Beatles. Hank was one of The Shadows. It was The Shadows that featured on a phenomenal number of hit singles, both on their own and backing Cliff Richard.
