The Paul McCartney song "(I Want To) Come Home,"...will get its world premiere in the upcoming film, "Everybody's Fine," is a ballad with lyrics that complement the movie's plotline.

The film is about a father whose offspring cancel their plans to visit him over the holidays, so he decides to pay them a visit and reconnect with them.

The song is a ballad that features Paul McCartney with a small backup group that includes a piano, a cello or violin, guitar and horns. It isn't overly orchestrated and Paul sings it with barely any overdubbing. It features introspective lyrics about facing life's challenges.

The chorus concludes, "It's been too long, now I want to come home."

"Everybody's Fine," which stars Robert DeNiro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale, opens Dec. 4.

  2. Maybe a new LP is in the works. I haven't heard anything, though.

I heard this song at the Tulsa soundcheck. After the song Paul and the band discussed the arrangement, Paul giving direction to the band. Of course it was just the band playing, so no cellos, violins or horns. But, it sounded great on a first listen. :righton:

I like it! Would not have sounded out of place on Chaos & Creation. Here are the lyrics:

    For so long
I was out in the cold
And I taught myself to believe
    Every story I told
It was fun hanging onto the moon
    Heading into the sun
    But it's been too long
Now I want to come home

    Came so close
    To the edge of defeat
But I made my way in the shade
    Keeping out of the heat
It was fun shooting out of the stars
    Looking into the sun
    But it's been too long
Now I want to come home

Home where there's nothing but sweet surrender
    To the memories from afar
    Home to the place
    Where the truth lies waiting
    We remember who we are

    For too long
I was out on my own
Every day I spent trying to prove
    I could make it alone
It was fun hanging onto the moon
    Heading into the sun
    But it's been too long
Now I want to come home

    For so long
I was out in the cold
But I taught myself to believe
    Every story I told
It was fun hanging onto the moon
    Heading into the sun
    But its been too long
Now I want to come home
    Yeah it's been too long
Now I want to come home
    Been too long
    Now I want to come

Yes, I think it's a lovely melody. It's no "Chaos" outtake, because he wrote it after seeing a early cut of the movie. But the production is totally "Chaos"-like, and I like that. The thing I don't like is...he's using AutoTune :realmad:.

I like it. Could easily be mistaken for a "Chaos" b-side.

Kate Beckinsale: The kiss of death. Very cute, but couldn't act he way out of a paper bag. Drains any scene she appears in.

This sounds like a really nice song. "Its been fun hanging on to moon, heading into the sun" is a great hook. It's a very McCartney line, with a slight Bacharach feel in the melody. One of the chord changes sounds like something Burt would do.

I have to admit that I wish 1989 Paul was singing instead of 2009 Paul. I haven't quite adjusted to his diminished vocal abilities. I think the singing would have been more fluid in past years. It's a real good song though. Like most of Paul's great songs, the melody doesn't immediately impress, but repeated listenings are very rewarding. I hope Paul does a lot more writing like this. I still think his talent is undiminished.

I just heard it tonight before stopping in here. Decent lyrics which is nice, but the song is a total snooze. I listened twice, that was plenty. It will be another immediate skip track for me.

  25. I didn't hear any pitch correction on that track. He may have taken his lead vocal and pitched it to use as the harmony vocal, though. Nothing wrong with that in my book. I am not sure he did that, though.
