I would have searched for my answer but this site doesn't allow searching anymore. I have the following CD. Is there a better CD of this fantastic album?

I have the MS Gold also, which is a little on the "hot" side to my ears, but it could be worse. Supposedly the 35DP 4 two-track disc is superior, but I've never heard it, and when/if the seach function is resurrected you'll find plenty of threads on the subject. I haven't seen it discussed anywhere else.

The aforementioned original Japanese CBS/Sony mastering with the album divided in two tracks is my favorite. You would be looking for the original Japanese CBS/Sony release with catalog number 35DP 4 or the original Japanese CBS/Sony pressing released in the U.S. with catalog number CK 33453 and with "35DP-4" in the matrix code.

It can't get much better then what you have there, i've got the longbox version myself and listen to it at least once a week, it never gets old. I've also got the CK 33453, and very much prefer the CK 53753. YMMV.

Is your CK 33453 disc the Japanese CBS/Sony pressing divided into two tracks? I prefer it greatly to the more common CK 33453 disc divided into five tracks. There is no comparison.

It's the two track, and while I like it (picked it up at my next door neighbor's garage sale of all places.. 50 cents O.O ) - a lot, I prefer the CK 53753. It's close enough to call the Mastersound as good as it gets for me, with the CK 33453 being a close second and then some. Oddly, I do enjoy the LP feel of the CK 33453.

Oh, not even a little. I'm slowly trying to find all editions of WYWH, it's by far my fav floyd record - with Meddle being a very close second.

What a coincidence. I just happened to pick up a copy of this CD for $20.00 Canadian. I haven't listened to it yet, but based on what I've read in previous threads, I excpect I'm in for a real treat.

Ben, should you ever decide to upgrade your system you might come to the same conclusions that myself, KeithH and GP have found. The Mastersound sounds a tad bright/harsh in the top end, but that 2 track remains smooth and easy to listen to even at loud volumes. The 5 track mastering comes no where near these 2 IMO.

Dunno Dave, if I a/b/x the two discs, even on my HD-650 setup I still come up liking the Mastersound more. And it's not like my system is shabby in the least..

Can somebody post a pic of the back of the cd case for the 2 track version? I have seen the 5 track version and also one with no track listing on the back at all. Pictures make things so much easier.
    Thanks

That helps, I think I saw the 3rd release. I know it had the "now made in the USA" on the back. Still wondering about that one with no track listing on the back though...

What's funny is how people here seem to find these almost accidentally. I have no clue where to find it, but I aint paying $300 if I ever do. The MS isn't too bad if I cut down a little at around 6.2k, a cheap solution for now.

I wonder how many people here have the 35DP 4 disc, and don't consider it their favorite, but don't say anything.:D

I'd love to get a first gen copy of meddle, i've heard it rips apart the MFSL.

  24. I have the Meddle MFSL LP and I'd stack it up against any CD issue of Meddle any day of the week!

  25. As mentioned here before, I am another STRONG supporter of the 1st press 2 track 'WYWH'. While the MS Gold is no slouch, I still much prefer the 2 track 35DP-4. As far as CD's go that is.
