    finally, pictures!

here's the backstory for those not following: i bought an SACD of Rocks (Columbia CS 57363, single-layer stereo) back in February at Amoeba Hollywood. it has been the talk of a thread in the 'Classified' forum; apparently, it is very rare. technical credits read as follows: 'Remastered for SACD by Dave Donnelly at DNA Mastering. Authored for SACD by Stephen Saper.' it's a proper U.S. pressing, but i found it as a 'blue line special' at Amoeba. there is a hole punch in the upper left of the slip and tray card. and yes, it sounds fantastic!

P.S. sorry, it's not for sale.

I've been searching for this one for years and just assumed it was never actually released. I have a printed SACD catalog from 2003/2004 that shows all Sony SACD official releases including a number of Sony SACD's that ultimately were never released and Rocks isn't anywhere to be found there.

We need to know more....How many made it out? If only a few were released, why? Because it was single layer? Did they stop production thinking they'd come out shortly with a hybrid like other later Sony SACD's?

Congratulations - that is indeed a rare SACD.

And I guess this means somewhere the final single layer production master for the Rocks SACD exists... they could run a thousand more copies and sell them for $50 each... :)

    Does it really sound fantastic?

I have the Oh Yeah SACD that Dave Donnelly mastered and I thought it sounded horrible compared to the Anesini remasters.

    WOW!!!!

    Nice one Eddie.

    Better install deadbolts.

Sorry I doubted your word. My apologies.

Sony should make a limited run just for us forum members. Now wouldn't that be cool?

no hard feelings, john; i totally understand where you were coming from. besides, i like us first/last name guys. :)
now, can someone edify me as to the 'timeline' of this release? when was it planned to come out? the cardboard slip would indicate 2001 or earlier. was it in the sony catalog for 'upcoming releases'?

My guess is 2002. I haven't seen the catalog in years, but I thought it was shown as an upcoming release in MCH for Fall 2002. I guess the 5.1 version got nixed somewhere along the line, but your stereo version snuck out the door.

And I thought you were wasting your time going through the used CD bins. Silly me.

"Rocks" was reported by Musictap.net as an "upcoming release" for X'mas 2004.

this is great...and hey, everybody gets lucky sometime. right!! The collector in all of us hates you though, you do know that??

I for one would be thrilled to get it, as I am sure you are, since Rocks is in my Top 5 of all time and is CLEARLY Aerosmith's best LP....so now this goes on the want list! I have found much rarer things before so this should be a little easier than finding Zep concert posters that exist in quantities of 1 or 2 WORLDWIDE (at least I hope it is easier)

    GREAT FIND, you lucky so-n-so

I'll be the first one to recommend this particular SACD goes into the "Geoman Pay It Forward" music thread so everyone can mail it across the world giving less fortunate audiophiles a chance to hear "Rocks" in DSD :D
