What was the reasoning behind this concept? How did the idea of flexibility seem attractive?
I understand the fragile nature of old 78s but surely you would have to try pretty hard to break any LP after about 1960....
Was this just a ploy on behalf of RCA to save on vinyl costs?

They did it to save money!!!

Note how after about 1970 or so, Columbia Masterworks records got very thin?? Many record companys lightened up their vinyl to save money.

The only plus of the RCA Dynaflex records, was that they were 100% virgin vinyl, as opposed to most records of the time, that used recycled vinyl.

    Yep, among other things.

Dynaflex records ARE what that ad suggests but that doesn't mean mastering, cutting or plating was any great shakes. RCA as a company, historically, rode very strange technologies both good and bad. Ah, those CAV discs!

Dynaflex records suffered on below average equipment. Imgaine tracking the outer edge when your platter is 7" wide and your pickup weighs over 6 grams.

Dynawarp! It was all Nixon's Fault. "The RCA record you are holding is thinner than any other record you have owned, unless you are collecting Beatles Christmas Records."

Dynaflex was just an RCA version of the "sound sheets" dad used to get in his National Geographic magazines. :D It's funny since I remember my grandmother reading us that entire dynaflex blurb from the innersleeve when she played Tomita's first album for us.

I have a couple of Fantasy pressings from early 70s that were pressed by RCA. Glaringly obvious--I can bend one of them into a U-shape! :) But actually, I have far worse examples of "new" vinyl that sound a lot worse than some of the dynaflex I have here.

RCA...the company that also brought you DynagrooVe! :D

    Another money-saving trick RCA had:

Leave the printing "Dynaflex" on the bottom of labels attached to records that aren't Dynaflex.

No one is helping the poor guy do a search?

Dynaflex records were not rigid therefore did not warp as radically. That was the theory. Oh, and it saved a *****l**d of money because vinyl consumption was cut in half.

    Hated those crappy records.

I have a couple of albums pressed on Dynaflex, and they really don't sound bad at all!

...one of my John Denver Dynaflex warped so bad it wouldn't track! I bought another copy, the label still said Dynaflex but the vinyl was quite heavy...guess they had extra labels...

If you don't like it, there are many website forums that you can swear to your heart's content. And you can also discuss religion and politics at the same time. Do a Google search; farewell!
