A few questions to get us started:

    1. The UK mono mix of "While I Cry" is longer than the standard album version. If you have heard it, what can you tell us about it, and what makes for the longer duration of the song?

    2. Very interested in hearing the alt mix of "Someday Man." I believe this was played on one of Andrew Sandoval's podcasts (which I missed). Is this mix much different?

    3. The notes on Rhino's site discusses a stereo mix of "Don't Wait For Me" (Disc 1, Track 25). How is this different from the album version?

    4. Also interested in the alternate vocal take on "A Man Without a Dream." Have we heard this before?

It's a three-minute song. The UK mono mix is not longer. (Rhino's site is wrong when it claims the standard "While I Cry" to be 2:34. It clocks in at three minutes on the mid-90's CD.)

Neither do I. (But, I have iTunes which makes looking up song info really quick and easy. Couldn't have answered your question without it.)

Someday Man has a scratch double-track vocal and a longer fade, Don't Wait For Me also has a double-track vocal (which, IMO, is a better than the released version).

At least for me, many of the songs samples don't match the titles listed. For example, disc one, tracks 13-15 all play "Someday Man."

I just ordered mine with the 3 day shipping. It worked well last time, so I'll stick with that.

Now if only my clear vinyl Head LP would come!

Hard to believe we're getting even more unreleased stuff than Birds, Bees & the Monkees. Can't wait for delivery. Site's going slow now. I'll order later.

And, again, you'll have to let me know how the tracks sound, as I went with free shipping again. With the last 2 sets the delivery took about 10-14 days past the release date, so I'm looking at early December.

  22. If there is one album in the Monkees discography thus far that does not deserve the luxurious three disc deluxe edition it is this one. I love the Monkees and have all Andrew Sandoval's excellent Rhino Deluxe editions from the self titled to 'Head' but I won't be buying this album. With the exception of a couple of songs the majority of this album is downright embarassing. I may have thought differently if they had released it together with 'The Monkees Present' which at least was a reasonable stab at a last gasp.

I respect your opinion, but I couldn't disagree with you more. I really and truly hope that Rhino gets enough sales on this one for you to get the opportunity to buy Present as a Deluxe box.

Well I have placed my order and they DO ship to Canada (I was worried about the "not available in all countries" caveat on the order page). Although this is a Monkees record I don't listen to a lot, it is the last one that I actually enjoy in the discography. "Present" was the farthest thing from that for me, musically speaking. I am however REALLY looking forward to this (the last two boxes were outstanding).
