When you use the "quote" button (at the lower right), please try and include the entire quote and not just one sentence or phrase which could be misunderstood out of context. We've been having a problem with that recently.

If the entire quote is too lengthy, just include the entire paragraph that your key quote point is in.

    Fair enough?

    Thanks, campers, much appreciated!

    Okie dokey!

I have cut quotes down in the past because I thought it saved bandwidth. But I can do otherwise.

Me too. So ENTIRE quote, no matter how long ? Okay Boss.

  4. Thanks Steve, it can be quite difficult as well to find the original post in a longer thread if it's not fully quoted - in other words if the original poster is cut off in the quote, pretty annoying.

I've only shortened the quote when I comment on only one of many points the original author made. But rules is rules so will cease and decist.

Is it still OK to bold up a particular point of the quote that you
    are responding to?

Apologies. In the future I will quote all then highlight the relevant specific words.

I've been doing that as well, in the name of conserving space. Will change strategy.

Maybe this would be a good item to add to the FAQ?

Thank you, sir. I actually had this happen to one of my posts, recently.

I usually add at least the entire paragraph, when quoting someone else. The goal being that it's better to add a little more of what was written than too little.

    Now everybody—

I like using relevant phrases and use ellipses to point out that context was removed.

Actually, if done correctly, it isn't.

Just click the arrow button next to the person's user name.

I'll be glad to do that. If I respond to a particular statement in a quote I have been known to remove the non-relevant parts just to save space.

    Since the topic is quoting...

Unless replying to the OP I think it is critical to quote a post when you are responding to something someone said. Some folks frequently respond or ask a question regarding a previous post without quoting it and their post appears totally random. Even if the response post comes next behind the original one, which sometimes it doesn't, it still comes across as unrelated to the topic.

    *ahem* :D

    THANK YOU.

Nothing more annoying than someone quoting an entire multi-paragraph posting, complete with a half-dozen image attachments, and they writing one sentence in response.

No crime, it was in the rules to quote less, now the rule has changed.

Apparently you are not aware of how the quote function works. Just click on the arrow "View Post" next to the name of the quoted person.

There are many posters who mess up the quotes, so that it is not clear anymore who wrote what. I would like to ask people to use the funktion correctly.

Example of how not to use it:

    [/quote]

Why are you thanking him? He's forcing the situation that you just said was annoying. If someone is asking 10 questions in a post, and you just have the answer to one of them, I don't see why we can't just quote the one part we are answering. One could then go back to the original post for context. Seems like the answer is worse than the problem.
