The latest issue of Rolling Stone (June 23, 2011) is reporting that a deluxe edition of In The West is coming out which will be expanded with an additional 5 unreleased songs. On the same day, we are getting Winterland which is being expanded to 4-CDs. So, there you have it. This is what is replacing the Royal Albert Hall DVD & CD. As with anything Jimi, I'm looking forward to it.

Isn't In the West pretty much covered by more recent live comps? It's a great album and all, but it just seems like a redundant release at this point. Great news about Winterland!

Needless to say, I will be getting both of these.

The tracks for In The West are all already available on current releases I believe, and adding 5 more (unreleased :) ) songs and reissue this album is really surprising to me.
Winterland re-issue very nice, although a 6CD set with the full performances would be better.
I'll probably get both of these anyway.

  4. Winterland!!! I'll be all over that one!!!

    Anyone have track-listings??

I thought In the West was better than the Winterland myself. I only had it on vinyl. Liked the sound of his guitars on it more.

Is Kramer mastering these? I hope not, man.

What DVD and CD? Did I miss some releases? Are they canceling a RAH DVD?

In the West reissue?? I'm stunned, I say, STUNNED! Doesn't seem necessary to me, but whaaaaatever. Winterland, tho. I'm looking forward to that.

In The West was his best live album ever. I can see why they would use this title again.

But it does make me wonder if the RAH project is just a dreajm too tired to come true, and so they just went with "In The West" as an easier option. (I don't read Rolling Stone)

In The West is a strange choice of replacement for RAHCD/DVD, if that's what it is - not least for the fact that two songs ("Little Wing" and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)") are both from RAH anyway.

Wonder if they'll go for authenticity of reissue and persist with the original mislabelling of those two tracks...? ;)

I've said it before, Winterland has the best-ever version of Like a Rolling Stone. Can't wait.

Yes it is. But for some of us old timers, it's cool to have a release of the record we grew up with, with the songs all in one place, and some extras.

Hopefully, the legal entanglements will be worked out for Royal Albert Hall and that it is just being delayed for a time down the line rather than being dropped altogether. BTW, there has been no reporting ont he tracklists for either of these packages yet. I imagine EH will be sending out an e-mail not too long from now to the EH/Sony list with more details. I spotted this the moment I got my copy of Rolling Stone in the mail this morning and I put the news up here under pressure of the arrival of an appointment arriving at my house plus a phone call to Chris M to give him word so that he might be able to get started on digging up some details.
When I saw the news in the magazine for the very first time at my breakfast table, I got online within 5 minutes of seeing it and then posted the news here.

About time Winterland comes out. That is one I will be playing non-stop.

In The West is an odd choice considering much of the material has been reissued on various titles. But, EH is not against recycling material, so, it isn't a surprise.

    STOKED for Winterland!

    Puzzled about In the West.

But I will purchase both! :D

(Still scratching head here the more I think about In The West ...)

:confused:Maybe since they can`t release that complete RAH on cd/dvd right now, they can only put a few songs as bonus tracks to an existing record such as In The West or something like that?
    maybe Stone Free,Room Full Of Mirrors,Foxy lady,Hear My Train,and I Don`t Live Today.(That`s a complete guess)

I`m ordering both of these no matter what.

Exactly...sorta kinda like the Beatles' Capitol albums. Would like to see a release of Rainbow Bridge also.

Are these coming on those bad EH CDs only or on record too? +5 tracks on In The West on vinyl would be 1 1/2 LPs ? I have both original LPs already.

Had them both on CD but sold the Winterland cos it sounded bad. Have the old In The West CD, sounds fine.

    Nothing compelling here yet.
