Hypothetical query for those who are planning to buy the Neil Young "Archives" set ...

If the "Archives" were released this spring/fall and you could only purchase one format, which would it be?

    Blu-ray, DVD, CD or Vinyl.

I included vinyl just for fun though there are no plans or released info, as of yet, that indicate future manufacture of an "Archives" vinyl set.

Tried to advance edit but could not find a way to change the poll itself, so I'm hoping a gort can and will correct a few errors I made.

The poll is supposed to run till Oct. 31 of this year and in the list of the 4 poll items there should be no 'e' in Blu-ray ...

As far as the CD set goes I would imagine it would all be HDCD, yes/no?

I assume DVD-A is included in DVD.

AFAIK, both the DVD and Blu-ray sets will feature the audio in 24b/192k.

FLAC. It's how I'll get it anyway in the end, whatever the bit rate and the hertz. The last thing I care about is a physical format, that notion is useless and outdated.

CD for convenience. But, I would probably break down eventually and get the DVD set too if I could find a used copy.

BTW, I disagree that the physical format is useless. The previews available show a pretty cool package with a nice book included (at least in the DVD and Blu-Ray versions). I'd rather paw through the book than read it on line!

  13. CD. Got to be. There's no way I want to be adding a new format again.

    Best Wishes

Blu Ray for me - a chance would be a fine thing.

As to physical formats being useless - tell that to all those that bought the special edition of Steven Wilson's Insurgentes.

CD without a doubt, it's the format I use for 90% of other music and if it ain't broke, don't fix it I guess.

If it is released on DVD-V (which is my guess), it gonna be 24/96, since it's the max resolution this standard supports.

Good point and most probably the choice!

So going with that premise we are offered 3 formats with 2 different bit depths and 3 different bitrates. 16/44, 24/96 and 24/192 ... interesting. :)

Warner Music Group won't release SACD's(and pay SACD manufacturing royalties to Sony) until the cows come home, until Godot arrives, until the farmers return to Hialeah or until Hell freezes over(choose your favorite piece of symbolism/imagery!)

I want it on Blu-Ray as originally intended. The feature of being able to browse around while listening to the music is part of the appeal for me.

I'd accept DVDs but would be awfully disappointed and completely uninterested if we only got CDs.

SACD, but second choice would be vinyl
