I've been trying to make a mono version of the Rascals' "Time Peace" comp from the "Anthology" CD's and my mono "Once Upon a Dream" LP. However, I was still missing "Beautiful Morning" in mono. I bought what looks like a vintage 45, but it plays stereo and says "mono/stereo compatible".

Is this a stereo only release?

That's the same 45 that I have Ryan. The "mono/stereo" blurb is right under the fan on the left hand side of the label.

  4. Almost positive there must have been an original mono 45 - pretty much all 45s were still in mono at the time of original release. You can also try to look for a mono white label promo copy of the Time Peace LP.

    Yes.

    Crappy CSG though.

Here's a pic of a 45 that's just like mine (minus the writing). Same sleeve also:

Released in CSG Stereo only . Just like a bunch of Atlantic singles and LPs from that time.

Is there a non-CSG mix out there on vinyl? This was a non-album single, IIRC.

Can't remix it, either. The multis were destroyed in a fire.

Except it was "Compatible Stereo Generator", not "Compatible Stereo Groove". The cutting itself was just regular stereo - it was the audio content fed in that was different.

CSG is like the edit on Strawberry Fields Forever - once you hear it, there's no going back, you always will.

This mentions "removing" the CSG by rotating the relative phase 90 in the opposite direction. Any chance there's a Cool Edit / Audition / DirectX plugin to do this?

I have a mono LP Australian release on Festival/Atlantic of Timepeace - The Rascals Greatest Hits where A Beautiful Morning is definitely mono - could be a fold down though.

I think it is a fold down if there's a mono version. The 1993 Rhino "very best of" states" all selections on this package are from original single masters". Thank you Mr. Inglot :)
That reminds me, I neeed to get further into The Rascals!

If it was mixed with CSG, there is no way it's true mono, no matter what the label or liner notes say.

That Rhino Rascals Retrospective isn't 100% mono on the first disc.

Adobe Audition does indeed have a phase adjuster tool. I may just try it on a few CSG mixes.

Wouldn't it have to include CSG though?
