that's going on my netflix list.

i watched the maltese falcon a couple of days ago. i never realized how forward-looking the direction was on that film before. subtle things, like the constant "jailbird" signals for the mary astor character, the veiled homosexuality of joel cairo, and the use of ceilings in really low shots, etc. adds a totally neat flavor to the picture.

  6. King Of Bluegrass : The Life And Times Of Jimmy Martin.

Got it from Netflix, good watching if you like Bluegrass, short running time though.

Jumper (Bluray) - It was better than I thought it would be, but nothing spectacular. The coolest part may have been seeing inside the Coliseum.

If you'd waited a couple of weeks you could have bought Sarah Connor on blu.

Ok, not everyone's cup of tea movie. When we watched the 1st few minutes, we thought hmmmm... But as we proceeded it became apparent the story line was simple but well crafted. Me thinks Ellen Page/Juno fits the role perfectly & she was brillant. Me rates it 7/10 :D.

Shine a Light. My brother, who's a big Stones fan too, was visiting this weekend. And besides, I only saw it 4 times in theaters!

Watched Never So Few with Sinatra and McQueen ...Looooooong film a little soapy at times but not a bad Saturday afternoon flick.

    Pedro Almodovar's "Volver".

The opening scene, with the group of widows cleaning graves --with a zarzuela (Spanish operetta) song in the soundtrack-- by itself is worth the whole movie.

Of note: the movie is in Spanish but has Spanish subtitles too. The subtitles use a more universal Spanish so non-Spaniards can understand the many local expressions.

Thanks & have to check this out. I/we don't seem to get enough of good foreign (non-English speaking?) movies which reminds me of Bhutan's "Travellers & Magicians " 8/10. To me this is one of the likes of watching movies "....a gentle, lyrical film that's also wise and thought-provoking.." as one reviewer puts it.

Anyone who likes Bluegrass music should like this, though it is kind of short.

    the Doors (on blu-ray)

Actually thought it was sad when it said Pamela died 3 years later at the end.

Then I checked on the web to see how she died... and now I don't care.

I watched Laurel & Hardy's "Beau Hunks" last weekend. (UK DVD played on converting player.)

  25. I watched this movie and "Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten".

I enjoyed both movies but was reminded once again that success does not always equal happiness. I was rather sad after this double dose of rock and roll.
