Broadsword for me - bonus tracks rule too.
    Love Catfish.

    "Dot Com" any fans?

    Catfish, preferably fried w/ hushpuppies.

Dot.com is ok, I listen to it more than Under Wraps or Roots To Branches (though the convenience of having it on cd plays some roll, I've only got Roots on record).

and could't "Fallen on Hard Times" be a hit single again.... history repeats itself...maybe the sequel could be 'harder times' or Wish it was just Hard Times...:shake:

Broadsword followed by Roots followed by DotCom. I saw them and met them on the Catfish tour. Great show but the album never clicked heavily with me. I prefer the proggier stuff rather than the bluesy stuff. But I haven't played it in years. That one had "Rocks on the Road" right? Good tune.

Haven't heard most of these albums; hopefully next we're in Toronto, Toot will allow us up for a Tull listening session through the EMITs! ;) I'll bring the bevvies of his choice.

(Broadsword would likely be my vote - it's got that epic scope, which I like.)

Roots to Branches, floored me first time I heard it. Matter of fact, think I'll dig it up and listen to it now!

Agreed. It was one of the first JT albums I heard and it'll always be special for me. I also love Root to Branches and Crest of a Knave.
Under Wraps? Well, I like a few songs but can't stand the 80s sound.
I have to listen to Dot Com and Rock Island yet. They're in my have-to-listen-to-as-soon-as-possible pile :shh:

  10. Broadsword rules! The production is a bit "too 80's" but the songs are great, and yes the bonus tracks are great, but why no Motoreyes?

The excellent "Motoreyes" should have been on there!

    My favourite Tull cover:

    Dark Remaster
    &
    West German CD

  15. Under Wraps for me, by a mile and a half! ...By 1/2 mile to Roots to Branches...

I will sound like a sour grape sort of Tull fan, but I can barely stand those other titles, and especially Broadsword!!

...But since this is supposed to be a forum about love instead of hate, I will just insist that UW is poweful, inspired music, esp. on the German CD (which is the one I have) or on the remastered version... Gimme the riff to Saboteur, and Ian's voice there!!

    Love or dislike. :D

Under Wraps album tracks are a treat to me.
    Bonus tracks not so.

Have only heard Broadsword and Knave. Broadsword is the easy winner for me.

Who knows where the time goes?

Seems like yes... 1988. 20 years since Knave & this 20th anniversary pin.

That's uber-cool. I have a shaped picture disc single with the Crest of a Knave logo, and it's own stand. I don't play it though, it gets kind of dusty, and doesn't work well on the record vac.

Of those, I like Under Wraps better, then Catfish, although I find it too long, and Broadsword, which has great tracks, but lost in a pool of not so great tracks IMO.
I liked Roots the first time I heard it, much less now.

To me, Knave, Rock Island and Dot Com are generic stuff.

    Top Ten Tull Tunes...

I'd agree that Rock Isle and Dot Com are generic Tull, quite boring IMNSHO...

But I found Crest to be a welcome return to form after the scary dark years of A, Under Wraps and Walking Into Light...

Agree to on Broadsword, some of the stuff left off it was way better than some of the stuff that made it on there. Cherry pick form the copious bonus tracks from that album, and you could have a Tull classic almost as strong as SFTW, and equal to HH...

I think Roots toBrnaches is the best Tull's done since Broadsword, maybe even HH. A fine, but lonely, return to form...

I think someone else posted their top ten Tull tunes onfanother of tootull's mayhem maybe too many too tull thread, but I'll put mine here:

    In chonological order:

    Stand Up ~ 1969
    Benefit ~ 1970
    Aqualung ~ 71
    LITP ~ 72
    TAAB ~ 72
    Passion Play ~ 73
    Minstrel ~ 75
    Songs FTW ~ 77
    Broadsword ~ 82
    Root 2 Branches 95

    cheers,

Rock Island, the only Tull record good from start to finish IMHO.

I was listening to "Crest of A Knave" today. What's going on with Ian's voice on this album? Was it filtered through something or did he purposely try to change the sound of his own singing voice? At times he almost sounds like Mark Knopfler.
