What about the other track on the same album that someone else
just said in this thread features Eric?

"Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave" ????

Marc, I really enjoyed your books. You've kept me quite busy hunting
down a lot of obscure records that feature nice guest appearances by
    Eric.

I still can't understand for the life of me why that Sam and Dave
song that Eric and Phil Collins released as a 45 in Australia in the
mid-80s hasn't showed up anywhere else.

I was starting to doubt its existence until I saw a photo of the
    45.

Since the number one authority on Eric's career decided to
jump into this thread - I'm going to ask him (or anyone
else who may know the answer) a quick question.

Can anyone confirm or deny if the extra tracks that
got released on the very limited release of the
"Lethal Weapon" soundtrack feature Eric Clapton?

I have the original vinyl LP soundtrack and I seem
to recall that CD copies were either never pressed
    or extremely rare.

In either case, I'm aware of a subsequent CD release
that had a few extra tracks. The label was some
very minor label - it might have even been privately
    pressed by Michael Kamen.

Copies of the CD with the extra tracks are VERY pricey
    on ebay.

Before I bid on one - I'd like to know if the extra
    tracks feature Eric.

These are the songs. The ones with asteriks next
to them are the songs only on the limited edition
    CD version of the soundtrack.

On a related note, there was some speculation that
Clapton did some recording on the Bond soundtrack
that Kamen worked on (License to Kill - I think).

I seem to recall something about Eric playing on
a version of the Bond theme that got scrapped.

To go back to the original question...

I'm a big fan of the work Eric did with Hiroshi Fujiwara.

I'm not exactly sure about when these
tracks were recorded. I don't own a copy
of "Air on G Strings" (nor have I heard it)

Cappuccino(Hiroshi Fujiwara) on MELLOW WORKS, also "Cappucino" CD single
Mime(Hiroshi Fujuwara) on MELLOW WORKS, also "Cappucino" CD single
Cappuccino Lite(Samba De Froresta Remix) on "Cappucino" CD single
Mime(K.U.D.O. remix) on "Cappucino" CD single
Air on G Strings(Hiroshi Fujiwara)* on CLASSIC DUB CLASSICS

Hiroshi also did some interesting remixes for Eric. I'm generally
not a remix fan - but I like these

I Ain't Gonna Stand For It (Dub Vocal Mix) on BELIEVE IN LIFE cd single
I Ain't Gonna Stand For It (Acid Mix) on BELIEVE IN LIFE cd single
Believe In Life (Disco Radio Edit) on BELIEVE IN LIFE cd single

I like the original 45 studio version of Coming Home by Delaney and Bonnie and Friends.

    - as a teen-ager, I saw them perform it live on TV, I think it was on the Ed Sullivan show, could be wrong about the program. Remember Eric among the musicians on stage.

Yep, he did the instrumental title track with original Bond guitarist, Vic Flick, playing the James Bond theme licks in the background. Sadly never released due to a disagreement with the Bond film makers.

I am pretty sure Eric is not on the album at all. Dave Mason was a good guitar player and was playing a Gibson Firebird and Strat at the time. His playing and tone was similar to Eric's at times.

As for the Australian 45, I would hope that it will one day appear on either an expanded Behind the Sun cd or a long overdue Warner box set. there is certainly enough material in the vaults.

I have this cd somewhere. It was issued by a small independent company who specialized in soundtracks. I am sure it was official, but Warners never issued the first Lethal Weapon on cd. Or 4 for that matter.

I'll try and find my copy and let you know about the extra tracks.

I knew the expanded "Lethal Weapon" was legit. But I didn't even know
it existed until it was difficult to get. If I remember correctly, the film
was at least ten years old by the time the expanded CD came out.

As for Lethal Weapon 4... I own the movie on DVD. I think it was
part of a "get 4 discs free when you buy a DVD player" deal that I
took advantage of back around 1998 or 1999.

I didn't even think about a corresponding soundtrack CD for
"Lethal Weapon 4" until a few years had gone by and then one
day I said to myself "Hey, was there a soundtrack album like
there was for the other 3 movies???"

I've seen a CD for sale that seems to be a soundtrack album
for "Lethal Weapon 4" - but it appears to be a rehash of
tracks from the other three movies.

    http://product.half.ebay.com/Lethal-Weapon-4-The-Music_W0QQprZ3286037QQtgZinfo

Its also possible that its just some anonymous musicians
playing their versions of those songs. I can't really
tell without listening to the disc.

I honestly wonder if the film soundtrack to the 4th
LW film was just music from the other 3 movies that got
pulled from a vault and re-used. By that point, it
would most definetly seem like that was possible.

And that would explain why there was no corresponding
    4th soundtrack album/CD

    On a related note...

I recently ran across a laserdisc copy of the film
"Communion". I never expected to find that.
I know Eric made a contribution to the film that
never ended up on an album. I'll have to do
a "laserdisc drop" of the music - but I haven't
    gotten around to it yet.

Jesse Ed Davis with EC guesting and another Let It Rain type solo.

The first two albums by the brilliant late guitarist Jesse Ed Davis, who recorded for Atlantic in the early '70s. Jesse Ed Davis was originally released in 1971 and cut haphazardly over a weekend. It has the same loose feel that Delaney Bonnie's Motel Shot does, though it does not reach the same staggering heights. This is a starstudded affair that includes Eric Clapton, Ben Sidran, Leon Russell, Joel Scott Hill, Alan White, and a dozen others, along with a horn section. The backing vocalists are a who's who as well: Gloria Jones, Venetta Fields, Clydie King, Merry Clayton, Bobby Jones, Maxine Willard, and some kid named Gram Parsons (also present on the Motel Shot session in the same capacity). Davis' so...ngwriting wasn't quite there, but 30 years later, its raw immediacy and goodtime feel hold up and deserve another listen. In contrast, Ululu, released in 1973, is a monster. It's swampy, greasy, nocturnal blues and roll of the highest order. The cast this time out is no less stellar, though there are a lot fewer people in the mix. Russell is back, as are most of the background singers, but added to the fold are Dr. John, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and drummer Jim Keltner. This time out, Davis' guitar playing, particularly his slide work, is front and center, and the overall approach is tighter, more focused. The album's first cut, Davis' "Red Dirt Boogie, Brother," is spooky, dirty, and nasty, and the next track, a cover of Merle Haggard's "White Line Fever," transforms the tune from a hillbilly anthem into a barroom sing-along with killer guitar fills. Other remakes include a beautiful version of George Harrison's "Sue Me, Sue You Blues," the Band's "Strawberry Wine," and Leon Russell's "Alcatraz," which closes the set. The finest moment here, however, is in "Farther On Down the Road (You Will Accompany Me)," cowritten with Taj Mahal and first recorded when Davis was playing with the bluesman. It's grittier than the original, more desperate, forlorn, and shambolic, with Davis' vocal stretched to its limit buoyed by his weeping guitar. No doubt about it, everyone is richer for having these recordings available on CD domestically, and '70s rock fans would do well to check this disc out. - Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

Curious to see if I could luck onto a copy of the expanded "Lethal
Weapon" soundtrack CD, I just tried an internet/ebay search.

I think the catalog number is MKCD1 - and it appears to have
once been sold on Michael Kamen's website (which is still
    there - but partly broken)

That catalog number seems to be shorthand for "michael kamen CD1"
(which is why I think it was a private pressing by Kamen).

No one is selling one on ebay right now - but I did find someone
selling what they are called "the complete soundtrack".

Oddly enough - the "complete" disc has more track numbers but the listed
times for each track are fairly short - and it doesn't appear to
be consistent with the expanded MKCD1 disc (which said that
it includes tracks that were recorded for the film - but never used).

Even more suspicious - there are 4 "bonus tracks" on the "complete"
Lethal Weapon CD - and those tracks do not have ANYthing to do
with the movie... I strongly suspect that its a bootleg and might
even have been created by someone who "borrowed" the sound
from the dvd (perhaps with the dialogue from the center channel
    mixed out)

I just went through my long list of Clapton stuff and pulled out
everything that I believes qualfies as a "guest appearance"

Some of that is subjective... For example, is the Concert for
George a "guest appearance" or is it part of Clapton's canon?
    What about The Powerhouse?

I purposely tried not to list a complete discgraphy for every
group Eric has ever played in. That's a much more longer
(much more difficult to digest) list....

    I don't think I eliminated anything I should not have but it's
possible might have gone crazy with the delete key. If you
spot an omission, let me know.

I give all credit to Mr. Roberty for doing most of the
    initial leg work on this.

I also think some of the tracks are somewhat debateable
(eric on backing vocals on beatles "all you need is love" ????)

But if anyone wants to start looking for Eric Clapton guest
appearances, this list should keep you very busy.

I don't actually have everything I'm listing. Songs with an asterik,
I still don't have. Some of that is because some songs are fairly
easy to get and I just haven't gotten around to plunking the money
down... some of the songs with an asterik are very difficult to find.

Anything with a number sign (#) after it was not released.

Usually that's something broadcast on television. Yes,
if you were recording the audio feed from the TV that day, you might
have it - but if you weren't - you don't want to hold your
breath waiting for a CD to show up in your local store.
If I actually was rolling tape, I don't have a # next to it.

I realize I could have parts of this wrong and I'm posting
this partly because any comments and/or corrections
    are welcome.

EC's playing is really strong on Howlin' Wolf's London Session...check out 'Rockin' Daddy'.

On 'Here In The Dark' and 'You've Got To Love Her With A Feeling' on Taj Mahal's Phantom Blues album.

...and his slide work on the Bobby Whitlock track 'Hello LA, Bye Bye Birmingham' is just about the best slide playing I have heard from him.

I found my copy. It was released via the Bacchus Media Group and manufactured by Rhino. It was a limited edition of 3000 and Eric plays on most of the bonus tracks. Well worth seeking out if you like that particular soundtrack.

Isn't Eric also on McCartney's "Freedom" tune done after 9/11 in 2001. The solo is not bad, although the song itself is not one of Macca's finest. And I think that there are two mixes---one live and one with studio overdubs. I don't know if Eric's guitar differs in the two versions.

I'm always willing to add things - even if its just a rumour that might
need to be proven/disproven. I'll usually make a note to myself in that
    situation.

I added the Sting thing from the "FOOLS OF GOLD" compilation
yesterday. I don't own that one (yet) and I wasn't aware it
had a different version than the regular Sting album.

I also added the Dave Mason album - but I made a note that it
    may not be Eric.

I have NO clue why I spent years hunting down a reggae album
by I Jah Man. I thought I had read that Eric is on it - but
he isn't mentioned anywhere and if he is on it - its not obvious.

One of my big mysteries is The Bunbury's track. It showed up
in several places and I'm not really sure if its the same track or
slightly different. There's a very pricey Bunburys album that I seem
to recall also has a George Harrison guest appearance - and his
    son Dhani.

My bigger list does indeed have the "Concert for NYC"... When I
was whittling down the bigger thing to "just" guest appearances
I had to make a few judgement calls. I chopped that off without
too much thinking. My thought at the time was he was on that
album as himself - but I forget about him playing with others
at the end of the night.

Eric did an amazing solo in Paul's "Let It Be" that night... not
the first one... one of the ones after Paul egged him into yet
another solo (it sounds dorky "C'mon Eric, play another one!")

I was rolling videotape that night - and I converted the audio
to minidisc - and I'm kind of unclear what is on my private
recordings and what ended up being properly released.
I know I prefer the live (broadcast) mix...
