  1. Who knows? I found it a pain to store. Eventually it WAS issued minus the big container with the lyric sheet/booklet in with the CD like the original CD version.

If anyone could answer this question I'd be very grateful: Has it been proven on the forum that the Japan for US 2 track is definitely a DIFFERENT MASTERING than the original Japan for US 5 track?

Everyone is different, but there is a part of collecting I just don't understand. If its not to listen to the music, I just don't get it. I would certainly open it. To buy sealed items just to hold onto...

I'm not sure if it's the same mastering, but the copies I compared did sound different with my preference being for the 2 track.

Funny to see this after such a long time; I bought that 35DP-4 CD 25 years ago; but I don't remember the Obi looking like this... Still enjoying that CD every once in a while.

  8. Wow, cool.

I woudn't open it. You can buy a used copy of the US 2-track (and probably also a Japan for Japan) for less than the value loss once you open the seal.

My guess: value of this disc opened but otherwise mint: at least $1,000

Value of the disc sealed: at least $1,500, if not $2,000

Makes no sense to open it, since you can find another copy to listen to.

  9. Yes, it is a different mastering. Quite different actually.

The 5 track is also nice and a great listen, but the 2 track is just special.

Just on a techical point-wouldn't the fact that the songs are indexed (clearly at different points between the 2 track & 5 Track) mean that it was a "different mastering" anyway..even if nothing was actually done to the tapes other than creating the song breaks?

I don't know, I only consider discs different masterings if they can't be made to cancel each other out, regardless of track markers.

Speaking of the CK33453, www.pinkfloydcdscanz.bizland.com lists three different issues for USA, does anybody know if these three are likely all the same mastering? I see there is also a Canadian CK33453.

There are different manufacturers-there is a Made in Japan CK33453 which is NOT the 2 track (denon manufactured IIRC), for the "correct version" the fact that it was made in Japan would mean it was the 2 track.
I like the Canadian-different artwork and that special note about it not being the 2 track with a Blue box on the back, make it look really interesting. They are all the same mastering.

someday I will see what the differnce is when I have the cash.

until then, my DIDP50004 / DADC US pressing sounds great to me.

even better was getting it Mint like it came out of the package for $1.50 shipped !!! :)

You mean that there is a CK33453 that is the two-track? That's the one that does not have Made in the USA on the tray, right?

That picture on the Canadian, that's the same one used on the Mastersound it looks like.

I think that's the one (CK33453) that I have, I'm not at home now. If we're talking about the same disc, yes, I like the sound too.

YUP :agree: (has 35DP-4) in the matrix but is made in Japan. The canadian is a bold printed title and has a Blue Box on the reverse side saying something about the disc may have 2 tracks (they don't), but its a nice curio

That is interesting that the Canadian mentions that, perhaps as a selling point. Kind of ironic.

So as for the CK33453 that is made in Japan without the Now Made in USA on the tray notes and does have 35DP-4 in the matrix, I wonder how many of these are out there?

Obviously, this is one disc that could turn up in any used cd shop, likely unbeknownst to anybody how valuable it is.

A sealed copy with obi. That is just insane. Who would sell it? Nobody, I reckon.

Have a look at this one-some great photos here

It all looks right for the 2 track..but it isn't. Its made in Japan on the back of the Artwork. The catalogue number is all great and how it should be. ...but the CD says Made in USA right at 6 o'clock. It isn't be the 2 track. Its either one from the changeover to USA pressing-but retaining the original artwork or it is one which was switched and the 2 track went to better artwork and a smooth sided case :sigh: .

I wonder which mastering of Shine On You Crazy Diamond and WYWH is on A Collection of Great Dance Songs. Especially the earlier pressings.

    I agree on that definition.

In fact I have an example: Failing to hear any difference between the Target and the Teldec "gold" of ELP's Pictures at an Exhibition, I did a cancellation test. And they cancel out perfectly, even though the Teldec has 13 tracks and the Target has only 2. (The only "two-track" I'll ever have, I guess...:sigh:) Conclusion: They are the same mastering.
