Just bumping this thread up a bit so it doesn’t get locked… But mostly to say that the film “Lola” has recently been released - soundtrack by one N. Hannon. Anyone got any leads on being able to hear the music yet?

Oh! I could use some new-Hannon related music right about now. I thought the Wonka soundtrack would be the next thing we'd hear so this is a great surprise.
There's an audio clip of part of the film in this interview with the film's director - it includes a couple of songs ('fascist pop songs' from an alternate future!). They are at around 45 minutes in, I think. The film sounds pretty interesting so I'm hoping it will be released online at some stage
Out on Bluray now (posted more to prevent the thread being locked, although I dunno how this forum works exactly and therefore how long it has to go without a post so maybe unnecessary on my part!): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lola-Blu-ray-Andrew-Legge/dp/B0BMQT9M39
New Thomas Walsh (Pugwash, Duckworth, occasional visitor of this thread) single co-written by and featuring Neil Hannon:
Thank you for sharing that! There have been a few things happening recently - there was that Lola film as mentioned previously, which I think may now be available on Blu-Ray and/or download if not streaming. There was also an orchestral event in Belfast with a new composition of Neil’s called “As the Sun Brightens, the Shadows Deepen”, inspired by his late father. You can read all about that here: Neil Hannon’s new song for Ulster Orchestra inspired by late father And then there’s promo ramping up for the Wonka film, although it’s still not out until December 15th! Here’s the trailer, though it doesn’t seem to contain any of Neil’s songs …
That Wonka trailer is straight out of the “if we tell people it’s a musical we’ll lose half our audience” playbook.
I think if the music had been done by an artist the studio felt was a giant name, they'd have made more of a point of telling people songs were in this. But the general fear of alienating people who hate musicals by telling them it's a musical overrides everything else. That or they don't have finished vocals done, perhaps? There's always two or three trailers these days, maybe the next features songs? I'm curious to hear what Neil's done for this, given the iconic status of the original film.
Hello! Not sure what’s going on in Neil world at the moment but I did see a release date for “Wonka” of December, I want to say the 15th? They’re still playing that same trailer with zero songs in it, though, I hope that’s not a terrible sign!
The reviews for Wonka have started coming in apparently, and the Divine Comedy twitter account has posted a thread with several reviews that mention the music positively. Seems encouraging so far. https://twitter.com/divinecomedyhq/status/1729816098122432957
Hope it's OK to mention (given the influence on Neil and his cover of "Jacky") I'm starting my own Jacques Brel song-by-song thread in the new year. With some tredidation.
Thanks! I haven't really engaged with this forum since we finished the TDC songs, but this really sparks my interest. I love Brel, but only have a (ridiculously massive!!) best of album, and have never gone any deeper. I may well join in
As to Wonka, the reviews seem positive so far, and it's super-lovely to see Neil doing so well I don't think it's for me though (for example, I didn't really enjoy the Paddington films), so I'll be in no hurry to watch it at the cinema. When my son is a little older, it might be one to watch with him at home. If anyone here does see it at any point, would be interesting to read your thoughts on it/the songs
I am going to HAVE to go to the cinema for Wonka I think. It’d be nice to think that the songs will end up on streaming so we can discuss them here, but who knows…
Let's hope so. I'm delighted that Neil got the opportunity to write songs for the film, after the debacle of the "Pope Ted" musical...
Apparently the Wonka soundtrack will be available tomorrow (Dec 8th) although I can't find out what platforms it will be on. Anybody hear anything concrete?
It is now available on streaming- here’s a Tidal link but it’s presumably on all of them! https://tidal.com/album/331940909
