He could of gone with this one - Oh, beautiful baby My burning desire started on Sunday Give me your heart and I'll love you till Tuesday Translated into Middle English
Agree with those who say this should have been for the ears of Iman only. The vocal does lift at the end, but the track is too far beyond redemption by then. Don't Let Me Down & Down 1.4/5
Don’t Let Me Down & Down, it's a step above MOR. There is something that I enjoy about it, especially the end where Bowie's voice is less restrained. I wish he took that vocal approach throughout and the song was less synth-based. Not to defend it too much, but in the context of a wedding album, it works. I wouldn't have missed it had it not made the cut and likely would have replaced it with one of the b-sides. Score 3.2/5
Don't Let Me Down & Down Normally I would be a sucker for this kind of late night smooth seduction ballad. But it's a bit of a snooze-fest. Lester's trumpet is again a highlight and the last minute of the song where Bowie really injects some emotion into the vocal is great. I guess 2.8/5 for those elements.
Don't Let Me Down And Down. It's not very good, is it? The music is again a fairly bland, semi Let's Dance backing, but older and more tired. Bowie's vocal is splendid, as ever, but the music lets its down. 2.5/5 And again, too many cover versions!! And we're not out of the woods yet.

Looking For Lester Trumpet fireworks surrounded by some sort of synthetic dance beat that feels artificial. Lester's free to enjoy his 15 minutes if he hadn't already (I had never heard of the man before this album). This track sort of wobbles along with one trumpet salvo after the next and it's tolerable to me until the 2:24 mark when that awful sound ruins everything that was going on, it's plasticky synth sax or something ? Triple yuck, again. When that's over and done with it picks up again until some idiot tries to take a shot at some Garson Aladdin Sane piano improv , .... oh blimey ... it IS Garson So just when you thought Lester was located Bowie makes sure he's totally lost again. It all deducts to: 1/5
"Looking for Lester" One thing that's stood out from this album listening again is how much sax and trumpet there is (Bowie x2) and I've found I've really enjoyed Lester's playing, he definitely brings something positive to the table. In fact on a whim I was this close to buying one of his albums at a record fair recently but looked at my budget and moved on. This funky jazz face-off is not unpleasant, one for the dancefloor certainly, but by finding itself on the album it kinda smacks of a lack of material. 3/5
Looking For Lester I love jazz, but this is hopeless. Just a jam, that should have stayed in the studio. 1/5
Looking for Lester Some nice bits but this isn't my kind of thing. There's a real dearth of original songs on this album. 2/5
I've been unable to post for a few weeks... But I'm back to annoy everyone lol. Too much to try to catch up soon so moving on .... Miracle Goodnight I like it. I like the clean, un affected, un disguised romanticism. But... it feels too long. And it is not. Listening, I would have faded it after the little guitar solo, but as bIlly Joel says, that would have cut it down to 3:05 SO why does it feel long? I think it is that repetitive synth line. Even if it does not bother one on the surface, it is there underneath. If not for that beautiful orchestral like section, it probably would have felt long after about 2 minutes. So... 3/5
Dont let me Down and Down To me, suffers from the same issues as yesterdays song. I dont get bored late in the song, I am lulled to sleep early. The talk/sing vocal is fine for a verse or two, but goes on too long. The ending vocals are amazing... more of that please. I know DB believed in "Always leave them wanting more" but there is a difference between measured and miserly. 2.5/5
The instrumental Looking for Lester is led by its repetitive drums-and-deep-bass rhythm and Lester Bowie’s trumpet that floats above it. There’s a solid musical foundation throughout. David gets a turn on saxophone (again treated), and Mike Garson contributes one of his unique piano solos. It’s an interesting interlude with some fine playing but I’d love it if the song had a bit more variation and dynamic range. 3/5.
Looking for Lester Always liked this. The pre BlackStar jazz track, lol Lester is by far the star of this track, but DB holds his own. Do start to get a little sick of the programmed backing track. Perfect for Garsons return as well.(though his bit is too long) Would have preferred the song to go out on short trades between DB and LB 4/5
An instrumental jazz track with Lester Bowie is a fine idea, it's a shame they added that percussive techno gloss behind the trumpet - drags the tune down IMO. I'd rather be able to hear more of Garson's piano but it's too often buried in the mix. Lost opportunity.
"Looking For Lester" Funky cool. It's greatest crime is going on too long. Even David's sax screams to be put out of its misery at the 4:00 mark. Could have served better as a shorter link track or interlude track. 2.5/5
Looking for Lester Sheesh. This is a David Bowie album? Looking for a reason for this to be here. Can't find one... it's awful. 0/5
Looking for Lester. An amiable dance track showcase for Lester Bowie. Pleasant enough but nothing more than that. It didn't even register to me that Garson is on this. It’s hard to rate as a David Bowie track. 3/5
