Here is one from my personal collection - anyone ever see/hear this? The horror lies within! Released in 1979 on Atlantic/Atco no less - Side 1 is a full-on disco orchestration incorporating long disco renditions of 'Stairway To Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' in dance medley form!! Truly one of the worst things I've ever heard!! :hurl:

We need to get the masters for that Ministers Quartet LP. I'm sure Steve and Kevin would like to do a remaster of that puppy....

    :yikes: (yet again)

Okay, the first funny thing to tell you about this LP is the following (verbatim) from the liner notes:

Ladies and gentleman, I present the longest run-on sentence in the history of liner notes. :righton:

So I did a little more digging on this LP that I bought for the intriguing cover. And I found this blog entry. Be sure to read Part 1 and Part 2. Great reading, trust me. But for fickle fate, Ronnie Deauville might've been a household name like Tony Bennett or Mel Torme.

    Or maybe not. Who knows.

Anyhow, it's actually a pretty good record. As the blogger says, it's kinda like the first Julie London record (My Name is Julie) done with a guy instead. Very minimalist arrangements (piano, guitar, bass), and he croons pretty well. Subtle. Never tries to overdo it. Decent recording (although obviously low budget), noisy cheap vinyl. I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10 if you're a fan of the lounge genre. But y'know, at least two of those points are for the cover alone.

    And what a cover!

This album is getting a lot of good reviews on the indie blogs, but man, that cover...

But that's such an obvious rip-off of the original by The Bovine Sisters, Songs for Fat Women, with the lenticular cover.

I'd like to hear some instruments played in reverse :)

  11. The cool intro to "Never Learn Not To Love" on The Beach Boys - 20/20 album is a cymbal played backwards. :) The single doesn't have this.

I can understand notes being played backward, and tape or film being played backwards, and I've heard of guitarists playing their instruments behind their backs, but playing instruments backwards is something that still boggles me :)

Yes, Patrick was a pseudonym for John Byrne, he did covers for Donovan too, (HMS Donovan), amongst others. He's also a very successful playwright.

At a cheap price, I would have been tempted for the artwork.

As it was, I'm sorry I didn't pick up a Tammy Faye gospel album I saw at a flea market the other day. The record inside was trashed, but it was only a $1. I held back because the cover pic didn't have as much makeup as I like to remember. :(

Actually, this album taught me a very valuable life lesson -- namely that if there could be great music that I love to death in an album that looked like this, then literally anything is possible (and, consequently, one shouldn't be too quick to judge anyone or anything).

You should actally HEAR this. This guy makes music that's like a speed freaks dream. Tons of snippets of music come at you so fast, and you hear them, and you know them, but it hurts your brain.

No disrespect to Tammy's family meant. I'd like to think she'd laugh with us.
