I love them, so bad they're good. The really surprising ones are the major label releases, like the Carpenters and Allman Brothers.

Wasn't Chicken in a major motion picture? It was Joe Dirt starring David Spade.

Some of the ones in the original post are hilarious, but that Gleason one's great!! It's only on the list 'cause the guy can't wrap his head around the idea that Jackie Gleason made records. But he did, lots of 'em, and they're great lounge music!

    Dali's awful?? In what universe??

That Crosby Stills and Nash cover was pretty awful.

What on Earth were they thinking??

I don't know, it's horrible. It just screams "Bargain Bin!"

  10. That Allman Brothers one is so bad and jawdroppingly dumb I wonder whether it was actually released, or was just roughed out and later rejected. But then, the Germans have produced some spectacularly bad major label LP covers...

Hmmm I almost posted the Scorpions 'Virgin Killer' as a prime example ... but I'm not sure if that would violate any laws or Forum rules!!
Best to not take that chance!

Speaking of those strange Germans...I guess the original cover of this Frank Zappa album was too 'risque' so they replaced it with this...

Actually, that Virgin Killer sleeve does not even make me laugh, it is as violently offensive as it is stupid (I still can't see why some associate it with the Blind Faith sleeve).
For years, I've been despising Scorpions for one thing: a song, called "Still Loving You" (OK I know their musical career can't be reduced to the song but that's another story).
That was until I found that sleeve :realmad:

It was released in the mid '70s and the cover pictured it from the album in my collection. It's not that rare. I have seen more in 2nd hand record stores since I bought my copy.

What was the budget for these? They must have spent a fortune.

Probably because--violent or not--they're both guilty of the sexual objectification of very young females.

Here's another original Scorpions cover that was changed in many countries ... not nearly as offensive, but just plain stupid-looking! The replacement cover was black with the band logo ... :shh:
