Izzy always was the coolest in my book. I love his first album.

Like I said, if you like 117 Degrees you might want to check out Concrete or Like A Dog.

As far as actual physical CD's, I'm not sure if any are still in print, including the 1st 2 Geffen albums.

    Here's "Chop Away" from Like A Dog....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tx_glUKA-c&feature=relmfu

The UYI tracks are among my favorites. As far as being the coolest it's probably because he isn't a dandy or B**** like the rest of 'em. Izzy is one bad MOFO! Would love to hear a new Ju Ju Hound album. That band kicked ****.

I'm pretty sure he wrote some of the music to several of the songs you say he only wrote lyrics to. Especially songs like "Dust N' Bones", "Don't Cry" & "14 Years".

Probably so, I'd say there's a few I missed completely too, like Breakdown, Coma, Civil War, Dead Horse, Don't Damn Me, The Garden, Garden of Eden, et al ... according to ASCAP

Suffice it to say, he was heavily involved in the Gn'R songwriting process.

I didn't realize he'd done that much writing for GNR.

I'm guessing that ASCAP list must have something to do with the publishing only, not songwriting credits, because Axl is the sole writer on "November Rain" & "Estranged". Maybe the prime writer gets 75% or something and the others a smaller cut for making it a GNR song.

Regardless of the split, Izzy was a major contributor to the songwriting...as were Axl, Slash & Duff.

I'm not so sure Slash and Duff wrote much. I think the core writing was Izzy and Axl.

Couldn't he just not wash his hand for several days? Not that that is any less disgusting...

    Not true.

I think it's fair to say that Axl & Izzy probably had the most writing credits if you broke it down. But Slash & Duff also had plenty to do with the writing. Here is the GNR discography on Wikipedia, there are several songs that Izzy had no hand in writing. The songs are credited to the band on AFD, but seperate credits are given for Lies & UYI I & II. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_N'_Roses_discography

    Here's the credits for Appetite:
Welcome to the Jungle - Rose, Slash
It's So Easy - McKagan, West Arkeen
Nightrain - Rose, Stradlin, McKagan, Slash
Out Ta Get Me - Rose, Stradlin, Slash
    Mr Brownstone - Stradlin, Slash
Paradise City - Rose, Stradlin, Slash, McKagan
    My Michelle - Rose, Stradlin
Think About You - Stradlin, Slash
Sweet Child O' Mine - Rose, Stradlin, Slash
You're Crazy - Rose, Stradlin, Slash
Anything Goes - Rose, Stradlin, Chris Webber
Rocket Queen - Rose, Slash, McKagan

While I wouldn't belittle Duff's or Slash's contributions in any way, I'd still see Axl and Izzy as the main two songwriters.

He is definetely (IMO) the best writer, going by memeory i thought he wrote or co-wrote the following songs.

    Welcome to the Jungle
    Nightrain
    Mr. Brownstone
    Paradise City
    Sweet Child O Mine
    Out Ta Get Me
    My Michelle
    You're Crazy
    Anything Goes
    Rocket Queen
    Patience

I need to double check the album to be sure though.

Just noticed that the track listing section on the wiki page for AFD was edited was today. When I was on there yesterday it had individual credits for lyrics & music, that's been removed. Reason for edit was listed as "album credits all 5 members for each song".

What was up there yesterday was:
Welcome to the Jungle - (no credits listed)
It's So Easy - lyrics = Duff McKagan, West Arkeen; music = McKagan, Arkeen
Nightrain - lyrics = Rose; music = Izzy Stradlin, Slash, McKagan
Out ta Get Me - lyrics = Rose; music = Stradlin, Slash
Mr. Brownstone - lyrics = Stradlin, Slash; music = Stradlin, Slash
Paradise City - lyrics = Rose; music = Slash, Rose, Stradlin, McKagan
My Michelle - lyrics = Rose; music = Stradlin, Rose
Think About You - lyrics = Stradlin; music = Stradlin
Sweet Child o' Mine - lyrics = Rose; music = Slash, Rose, Stradlin
You're Crazy - lyrics = Rose, Stradlin; music = Stradlin, Slash
Anything Goes - lyrics = Rose, Stradlin; music = Stradlin, Chris Weber
Rocket Queen - lyrics = Rose; music = Slash, Rose, McKagan

I actually listened to some more recent Izzy albums lately and although the Keith influence is still there, he sometimes sounds a bit like Tom Petty or (oddly enough) Jakob Dylan IMO.
