Yes, I'm definitely interested. Every time I've asked about these before on here, people just shrug and say they're mixed and sitting on a shelf somewhere but they'll never come out. I'm a big fan of Don't Shoot Me and Caribou. I love my needledrops but I'd still love to hear these mixes, especially if they're as good as the SACDs already out there, 5.1 or stereo, I don't care.

I know quite a few people who would buy Elton in DVD-A, and wouldn't give two ***** if there wasn't a stereo layer. Blue Moves in 5.1 would be awesome.

  3. I play the four I have in 5.1 exclusively, so more 5.1 would be welcome.

I'm a huge fan of Elton's early stuff, up to Blue Moves.

I'd happily pay an unrealistic price for these albums in hi-rez (in stereo too of course ;))

Count me in too. I love the MC tracks on the titles that have been released and would love to get the rest. I'd prefer SACD vs DVD-A but as I have the original DJM CDs I could live with onlyh MC. I've never listed to the Hi-rez stereo tracks for the EJ titles as the 5.1 mixes are wonderful.

    thanks,
    Bill

I'm in for more Elton John hi-rez in 5.1 (although I'd hope stereo would also be on the disc) in either DVD-A or SACD format.

I thought this thread started as an appeal to get the rest of the Elton John SACDs released.

I realize that that will never happen.

So the thread has turned into a question about whether those of us who were interested in more Elton John SACDs (which per spec would have at least a stereo mix, and in most cases also a surround mix) would be interested in purchasing 5.1-only DVDs of the rest of the Elton John "classic years."

To answer that specific question, I have to say that no, I would not be very interested in purchasing 5.1-only DVDs of Elton John or anyone else. I have the capability to play 5.1, but I rarely do because stereo is so wonderful when it's well-mastered and I get too distracted by 5.1 mixes. (Please don't flame me; that's my opinion only - I envy all of you who love 5.1 mixes.)

I won't say I'd absolutely never purchase 5.1-only DVDs, but they would be very low on my list. For example, there are lots of Steve Hoffman mastered vinyl LPs on Warners that are coming out soon that I'll be spending my money on first, and there's unlikely to be any cash leftover for 5.1-only DVDs.

Sorry . . . I *REALLY* appreciate the offer to make these 5.1 Elton mixes happen! Like I said before, I wish I liked 5.1 mixes more like some of y'all!

    Craig(VC).

Jeff, Wouldn't HiRez stereo make all the difference. I can understand it if you release stereo CDs, but HiRez surround and stereo shouldn't be a problem... or would it? BTW, we are talking HiRez surround here, aren't we? Because if we are talking Dolby Digital or DTS I, as I imagine others, would not be interested.

On another note: I just can't understand why there are so many this against that format posts lately. Why can't any new Elton John releases be HiRez surround and stereo? Why do we have to start an stereo vs. surround cycle?

The same, IMHO, goes for vinyl and digital why can't it be an and situation instead of an or one?

  15. In the case of the 5.1 DVD-A with no stereo layer, Jeff already explained that the label would be less likely to license a format with a stereo layer due to worries of competition with the label's own red book stereo CD's.

So it's not a matter of 5.1 vs. stereo, it's a question of being interested in a 5.1 only DVD-A w/out a stereo layer, as opposed to no 5.1 mix at all.

The way I understood his post was that it was something he presumed, not a fact, especially - I add - if we are talking HiRez.

I agree, in that I would not purchase non-hi-rez surround (can't we just call this low-rez?). There is admittedly a selfish reason for this in that my car has DVD-A surround and does not play low-rez. (Before a responder comments on car listening, I recognize that road noise is a drag but I live with it because 95% of my listening is while driving.)

Unless something has changed recently, according to posts here and elsewhere the past few years, here in the States you have to pay for each set of songs on a disc i.e. for a hybrid sacd you pay separately for the CD stereo tracks, the hi-res stereo tracks and the hi-res surround tracks.

For dvd-audio, you might end up paying for up to five sets of tracks: a dvd-video compatible PCM track (from 48kHz/16bit to 96kHz/24bit), a hi-res stereo track, a hi-res surround track, a Dolby Digital track and a DTS track.

But in Europe for example you just pay for each song, regardless of how many times it appears on a disc (which is probably why so many sacds are sourced from there).

I'm looking into what it would take to get the 5.1 remixes and hi-rez stereo masters released... I don't even know if there is a "standard" way to do this...

Just from my brief experiences trying to get other projects released through a third party because the owners of the masters won't do it, these deals can be very tricky.

I'll let everyone know if I make any strong headway on this - actually, I'll let you all know either way!

Silverline released The Beach Boys in 5.1... so I'm thinking it's possible for the Eltons; but again - not sure.

They screwed up "Desire" though, since I guess they forget they had a surround mix they could have put on the disk.

    Any new news

Has anything more come of this or is it a dead issue. It would be awesome if these could still see the light of day as seems so silly that the mix's are done and label's are just sitting on them when there are definitely fan's that are waiting for these mix's to come out.

I'd say that there will be no more rock/pop Hi-Rez releases from Uni. :thumbsdn:
