Well, it was late last week.... Phillips CD473 The STILL working vintage CD Player thread - pictures, comments & appreciation
I collect cartoon (not comic) books. A significant number in the collection are political/editorial cartoon books - compilations from either a single, or various, cartoonists. A week ago, I picked up Lotsa Luckovich (1996) by Mike Luckovich at a thrift shop. This morning, I ordered three of his other books: Four More Wars! (2006), A Very Stable Genius: @realDonaldTrump (2018), and The Twisted History of the GOP (2022) from different online sellers. As far as I can tell, those are all of his published collections. Jeff
I don't have the patience for anything like that! Imagine: "I'll rebuild and tweak your turntable - the sound you'll hear in 2029 when you get it back will be amazing!" Although I do have my own projects that have been waiting longer than that for attention...like a decision whether I toss all the blown germanium and selenium and put replacement amp and speakers and preamp and non-ceramic cartridge in one of these...
But to make sure there was no confusion, I put the black marker to work before putting them into my system, scratching out the "name" of the company and changing "Made in the United States" to "Made in China." I'd hate to have a heart attack and then have the family offer a knock-off for sale as if it was real.
Vintage 1930's Regal parlor guitar, rebuilt with new internal bracing, new fretboard, bridge, and undersaddle pickup
Well, Covid backed up all the machine shops, and made sourcing vintage parts pretty tough, which still lingers a bit today. Try finding a rebuilt Bosch starter for a flat six - there’s no cores let alone rebuilt units. The good (or maybe bad) news was the delay let me contribute more budget, stretched out over a longer period, resulting in a higher performance and more intricate build than I budgeted for. Like 3x my original estimate which was admittedly unrealistic. But the car I have now - just wow!
I considered buying a used 914 about 40 years ago! It had been lowered and had webers with electric fuel pump. That thing handled like a go-cart; what a blast! - Bill
My wife gave me this as a Xmas gift. After the first listen, I immediately per-ordered Gaucho. Patiently waiting...
So you are saying that you bought some cheap audio cables directly from china which were stenciled "Made in the USA" and also had the name and logo of Cardas on them?... - Bill
I wanted to guess that it was a blinker from a police motorcycle... I guess that would have been not too off the mark? In the end I chickened out though, your photo of it was pretty weird so I was spellbound like a deer in the headlights...
What does '24 hour watch movement' mean? I mean wouldn't any analog clock with hands have 24 hour movement?
Inexpensive you mean? Yes. Honestly, they've been burning in overnight and sound pretty good (there's very little chance I'll ever have the opportunity to hear what the real things sound like in order to compare, but they don't sound THAT good). But it's not sitting well with me. All these years I've spent trading and sharing live recordings always with the caveat that they should never, ever be sold, and then having these in my system feels pretty hypocritical and uncomfortable. If anyone wants two pairs (they cost all of $27; it would be more expensive to return them, not that I can now that I've corrected their verbiage) should PM me, and I'll send them your way.
I wasn't judging you. But the amount of counterfeit and not fit for use product coming from there is outrageous. Another fellow here was having trouble making an AC power cord using components from there. One of the connectors was coded to reverse the polarity of a 120v line... - Bill
