I have a two part question:

A.What particular album or albums (on any format) have you paid your hard earned money for the most number of times including deluxe editions, gold versions, remasters, variations of pressings, vinyl, cassettes, etc?

B.What release did you buy the most number of times because you wore out your original copy and needed a new one (say like back in vinyl's heyday)?

    For me:

Rush "Moving Pictures" at least 10 different pressings including gold, remastered, WG, Japanese, different mastered USA versions, etc.

Also Steely Dan "Aja" same story...at least 10 variations

As far as just having to replace an old vinyl release multiple times before cd's, for me it was Steely Dan's "Greatest Hits". I think it was on my Christmas list in '79, '80 and '81 :) Also wore out a couple of Rush cassettes too that I had to replace

All 6 of the Morrison-lead Doors albums I have bought multiple times:

    1. US Vinyl Pressings (I bought them in the early-mid '80s)
    2. Original US CD Pressings.
    3. DCC/AF CD Remasters.
    4. 2007 Remixes
    5. Perception Box Set (2008 reissue)
    6. 2008 Rhino Vinyl Box Set

Probably at one time, I had cassette and/or 8-track tapes of at least some of the Doors albums also.

I never did buy the 1999 remasters (individual CDs or Complete Studio Recordings Box) when they were originally released. But, since the Audio CDs of the Perception Box supposedly use the '99 remastering, I have no reason to ever get them now.

Also, all Led Zeppelin albums I have bought multiple times:

    1. US Vinyl Pressings I bought in the early-mid '80s
    2. Original US CD Pressings
    3. Led Zeppelin Box Set and Box Set II (the original remasters from the early '90s)
    4. The Complete Studio Recordings Box (had to have it too since the original box sets were compiled and not separated by individual albums.)
    5. 2008 Rhino Japan Mini-LP Definitive Collection Box Set

Band On The Run is the album i've bought in the most configurations.I have had 3 CD versions of Band, the first would have been the initial release on CD,and then the Hoffman Gold DCC remaster and then finally the 25th Anniversary double CD version. The first vinyl would have been in Christmas 1975, it was my first Paul record. The cassette would have been in mid '80's.

    1 x vinyl,1 x cassette and 3 CD's.

Am i the first to say Dark Side of the Moon? Seems so...
    Cassette
    8-track
    LP (German Harvest)
    CD (harvest blackface japan)
    Picture Disc (USA Capitol)
    MFSL Ultradisc I CD
    Quad 8 track

    Think i have enough...

Of course there are many more that shares the combination "8 track - cassette - LP - CD"...

Same goes for Selling England by the Pound.

V/C CD and LP versions are winners for these.

I have no idea how many times exactly, but I'd wager the answer for me is easily Guns N' Roses' "Appetite for Destruction."

I first heard it on a dubbed-off cassette a friend gave to me, where it was missing two or three songs and sounded awful...but I was hooked. I then ordered it on vinyl from the old RCA Record Club (though maybe it had became BMG by then...), decided I wanted it on cassette and ordered it through them again. I either wore that tape out or lost it, and remember buying another tape at K-Mart. At some time around 1998 or so, I bought it (used) on cassette one last time on an impulse buy looking for something to listen to in the car. Then of course, there's the myriad CD versions I've owned throughout the years...these typically either got scratched up badly from loaning them to friends, stolen once or twice, and broken by an ex-fiancee in a fit of rage once. Mostly recently I bought it on CD used about a year ago, a nice early-ish JVC pressing.

Hopefully this is the last time!

    1) First issue Mushroom CD releases (plain, white inserts)

    2) Mushroom Mid-Price Masters

    3) The 70s and 80s box sets

    4) Enz to Enz complete box set.

I'd say Exile on Main St. Mainly because I went through multiple copies of the vinyl in my early teens since I listened to it over and over again on a really crappy record player. It wasn't even a "turntable" it was an all-in-one record player that I recall very little about. I also bought both CD remasters, and will buy the upcoming remaster/reissue. And since I've already purchased this title so many times, I had no moral problem downloading the Japan 42DP version.

Also several versions of favorite Weather Report titles-Heavy Weather, Black Market, Mysterious Traveler: vinyl, 1st CD issue, CD remaster, Japanese Master Sound, SACD.

For me it would have to be Tommy-The Who

Vinyl- 1 hand me down US pressing with missing libretto, bought an early pressing US with pristine cover, then a month later found ana all around EX G.K. press that looked like it has never been on a TT.

    Cassette-twice

CD: Double disc, 93 single disc remaster, '95 remaster three times, SACD Deluxe purchased on release day & the DVD-A also purchased on day of release. Best decision I ever made.

So I guess I bought that album 12 times.
