June 13 is the new release date for these Boston CDs, newly remastered and overseen by Tom Scholz, with *different* bonus tracks.
The discs out in Canada may or not become collector's items, but word has it they sound bad. Some here have already mentioned this.

Well, I ordered these discs from mymusic.com. Here's hoping they show up.

It really doesn't matter if they become collector's items or not. I was ready to buy these two titles upon release and did so for my own listening enjoyment. It's too bad that Scholz had to step in and put a stop on the Stateside releases. He's known to be a perfectionist and what is unexceptable for him may be completely acceptable for Boston fans. The live tracks on "Boston" by the way are excellent, as a matter of fact this is the first time I had a chance to hear Boston during a live performance. They even picked the two best songs from the Boston album to include for the live versions, Smokin' and Foreplay/Long Time. Does it get better than that?

Actually,I hope that the new bonus tracks are studio recordings

My Music has now shipped out the Canadian Sony expanded/remasters of the first two "Boston" albums to me,and I welcome these potentially rare collectors items, but I'm hoping that Tom Scholz will permit some studio bonus tracks for the U.S.A. CD's,especially the 1975 demos with original drummer Jim Masdea, including"Life Isn't Easy"(early version of "Something About You"),"San Francisco Day"(early version of "Hitch a Ride"),and the superior early version of "Don't Be Afraid".As for "Help Me"(correct title "Shattered Images"),a studio version does exist. And there may be unreleased tracks from the unreleased "Boston 2" album. It was advertised in magazines by EPIC,with artwork entirely different from "Don't Look Back".Scholz later said(in 1978),"We could have put out an album last year(1977),but it would have had only 3 good tracks.People were waiting in the bushes for us to do that."

Same for me. I'd be surprised if Mark Wilder turned out bad discs, unless Mr. Dickinson had Mark give him too much cowbell on these. :)

I doubt he did a bad job. This may just be a control issue.

I got an e-mail from CD Universe claiming that my copy I ordered of the first album has been sent to me. I'm assuming that I'm getting the Canadian version. This is really getting strange because, if it's the case, then I'll also be ordering the Scholz version when it comes out in June. I'll end up having two distinct versions to listen to.

by the way-----to me, the Boston disc sounds just fine-------anybody think other wise?
you know, i've thought for awhile about this, if i was asked along time ago what cd/records would i like to be released in 5.1, Boston's st would be one title, there's a lot of layers that i think would work spread out in the 5.1 spectrum and sound Amazing. Hence--Eagles Hotel California.
why not such a remarkable record given a new breath of fresh air, (sure there was a SACD) but........i feel it would work better in 5.1----> anybody else?

It's too bad the SACD did not come with the original quad mix that was an aborted quad release in 76.

MyMusic.com just cancelled my order for both CDs. They must have been pulled. Scholz strikes again!

My order from mymusic.com also was cancelled today. I knew I was in trouble when I was informed that they were backordered yesterday. Mymusic.com is showing them now available for pre-order with a September 30th release date.

I guess the original versions will be collectables after all.

I have it here in my hands, check out the shrink wrap, it looks like it was done at home! One corner isn't completely covered..it is on the front. Ignore the stubby thumb...

I picked both up at Sunrise Records. I don't know if you have one around your location, but if you do you may have luck there.

so I guess these canadian releases would have the old remastering before Sholz went back adn redid them himself? I'd be interested to see when his come out which are better.

Mark Wilder did them so the first album will probably sound very close to the highly regarded SACD version that he mastered.

    Thanks!

I'll be interested in hearing Scholtz's work too, and comparing it to Wilders..should be interesting to say the least.

These two Boston re-releases sound superb, however I will admit the 2 live tracks on the self-titled release are a poorer sound quality. I had expected better. BUT, considering the two tracks they included, Smokin' and Foreplay/Long Time, I can forgive. The live versions are good with Scholz doing some unique guitar work. He's really bending the strings.

Barry Goudreau did the Lead Guitar on "Long Time"

In the studio & Live versions of "Long Time",Barry Goudreau plays lead guitar, while Tom Scholz plays organ. These are Goudreau's appearances on the first 2 "Boston" albums:"Foreplay"(Rhythm guitar),"Long Time"(lead guitar),"Let Me Take You Home Tonight"(Lead guitar),"Don't Look Back"(lead guitar towards the very end of the song),"Used to Bad News"(lead guitar) "Don't Be Afraid"(slide guitar).Goudreau did not play on any other songs from the first two albums. The lead guitar soloing trade-offs that people PERCEIVE to be Tom Scholz/Barry Goudreau duels("Hitch a Ride","It's Easy","Peace of Mind") are entirely Scholz overdubbing many layers of guitar.

The Nico Bolas mixed live tracks sound hideous! He's not my favorite mixer but there's gotta be a way to mix them better than this. I can take marginalized fidelity but a poor mix balance is unacceptable.

How do the original album parts of the discs sound? I ordered from a place linked somewhere here a while back, but I never received the discs...
