Jeff's post right before mine is kinda funny. I posted mine and there it was! There's a lot of the old DCC gold jazz titles still out there. I've seen a lot still sealed at or below retail. Of course, that'll eventually change. Now's the time, I guess.

I hear the hum very slightly during the first couple seconds of track 1 (I would've never listened for it if you hadn't mentioned it ;)). It's more apparent on tracks 2 and 3 because the music is sparser. It's still not loud enough to distract my ear away from the music. This is a case of the cure being worse than the symptoms. I don't hear it at all on track 4.

What do you think about the edit on track 2? I was so happy when I didn't hear it on the DCC.

I've been seeing it at the record stores recently. It was mastered in Japan but it's not an import.

    Here's the cover.

Nothing will sound as good as the DCC, but I love the album so much my enthusiasm has made some of my friends want it too. I just wanted to know which version to recommend to them since they aren't willing to pay a premium for the DCC.

Could someone please help inform me, a member of the ignorant, as to what kind of music this album is exactly?

    Early Rap.

No, it's "Charlie Brown" type music. Jazz. Same piano player as on the Charlie Brown animated TV specials. "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" was a bit top 40 hit from this album, recorded in 1962.

Thank you for that explanation Steve.

George Benson also recorded Cast Your Fate To The Wind on a CTI album called "Good King Bad" and it also appears on the vinyl version of "George Benson Collection," a compilation which is notable for the use of many 45 edits of his pop hits including This Masquerade.

I resurrected this old thread by request.

Best version of this album is the Analogue Productions 45 RPM version and the DCC Gold CD version (of course that would be my opinion :>0 )

I'd agree on the DCC, that natural piano sound is to die for. Nice work Steve!

A couple years ago, this was one of the last DCC Jazz CDs I picked up (thanks to the Classifieds here where a link to a $25 eBay BIN was posted). I got so spoiled by all the other jazz DCCs that I didn't buy any other version of Black Orpheus while waiting for a good price on the DCC.

FYI, I'd only been listening to jazz for a couple years before I picked up the DCC, so it's not like I'd been depriving myself of this great music for years and years, passing up the OJC or K2 versions while waiting for the DCC.

Maybe I'm missing out, but I've never bought a title on SACD that Steve already did as a gold CD.

I don't have many DCCs, but this one, Vince Guaraldi Trio 'Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus' probably gets more spins than any other. Even on my mid-fi system, the piano sounds so true to life.

My first DCC purchase, bought simply because it was 'different.' Just how different it was became very apparent on the first listen.

It's still my favourite DCC CD!

It's one of mine as well. A beautiful disc.

I also splurged on Steve's 45rpm edition, and ... wow, the sound is just breathtaking. It's one of my most treasured jazz records.

Is Steve's AP 45 edition mono or stereo? How about the DCC?
