And not one of them had the sense to record it. :shake: There are no live recordings of the original four piece except the BBC stuff. :realmad:
Anderson has said he has studio outtakes from the first album, but somehow I doubt they will ever see the light of day.

    Rock Island tour

I was sitting stage left - eye level with the band at Hamilton's Copps
Coliseum for the Rock Island Tour. Ian Anderson was introducing a song
from the 20th. box-set. (He was commenting on the cost of the box-set.)
I yelled out, "I got it cheap", Anderson turned his back to me and
flipped his tail and said into the mic, "cheeky". My section burst out
with laughter. Great show that night, great interaction for me.

1994, stationed in HI at the tender age of 17 my buddy and I were cruising around and he popped in Original Masters. Asked me if I liked Tull, I responded with "Never heard of them" or something akin to that. He selected track 9 (Witch's Promise) and it's been a slow love affair ever since. I think it was 3 years ago when I realized Jethro Tull had eclipsed my former numero uno band, Pink Floyd.

It was indeed JH-H on bass replacing Cornick. I saw the tour in June of '71.

  7. to wags,

AFAIAC, in many regards, MitG is a superior album to at least TaaB and SU. Even though it's half an Anderson solo album, it has a unity of style, of sound, and inspiration (1st person, real personal lyrics), Jeffrey is at his top with the group - the finesse of his playing in Black Satin Dancer is incredible, Ian's voice is as good as it will ever be, and David Palmer's string quartet arrangements are to die for!!

I grew up on Tull and loved them dearly:

Nov. 6 1971 Carmichael Auditorium, U. of NC Chapel Hill, NC. USA
Played Aqualung, Benefit, Standup, ect. (I was 12 !)
    Anderson, Barre, Evans, Hammond-Hammond, Bunker

May 5, 1973 Littlejohn Coliseum, Clemson U. Clemson, SC. USA
Just missed Passion Play, they showed the intro film, but the show was already 2 hours late. Amazing show, TAAB, Aqualung, Benefit, Standup
    Anderson, Barre, Evans, Hammond-Hammond, Barrimore-Barlow

Jan. 17, 1975 Civic Center Asheville, NC. USA
Tull had rented the Asheville Coliseum for the full week prior to this show, for rehearsal. This was the beginning of the US War Child tour, Asheville not Nashville. I had a big date (she had to drive), we snuck a bottle of red wine in for occasion.

John Glascock's band Carmen (flamenco rock) opened.

Saw Tull in Baltimore, Md. for the Thick As A Brick tour in 1971 <?>

Went up from Alexandria, Va. with a bunch of buds in a VW van. Had a great time. On the way up, some joker whipped out some real Peyote, small, dried up cacti buds that all of eagerly chewed up and promptly got the worst case of dry-mouth that you could ever imagine. Suddenly we all realized there wasn't a beer, a coke, absolutely NO liquid in the van whatsoever. These things are dry, NASTY and taste awful! Absolute MISERY until we arrived in Baltimore! The driver was <wisely> too paranoid to stop and make us vulnerable to "the man". Ack!
Them suckers didn't kick in until the show, however, and I'll never forget how powerful that show was. None of us had really heard the TAAB album yet, as I recall....
A great memory, after all. I never got to see them again live.

I was too young to attend...but sure remember hearing the stories of this evening from my brothers. What a mess. They didn't have concerts at Red Rocks for years after this incident.

Besides the wonderful "Thick As A Brick Tour" in 1972 (?), I really enjoyed the 1998 JT concert at the Dallas Fair Park Coleisum. What made it even more special, was that I had encourage three friends of mine to go that concert...We were ALL Pleased. It was Rocking Evening !!

Growing up in Detroit , we were graced with Tull concerts many times thruout their career. Their Benefit & Aqualung tours , playing at the Eastown & Michigan State Fairgrounds, were classics. They set up for 3 or 4 nights at Cobo Hall for "A Passion Play" (I attended 2 nights)

My first summer free of school, 4 of us (two couples) drove down to Cape Hatteras for a week to enjoy the ocean. We had a cheap 8 track tape player in the car, and only had like 6 tapes to keep us company. One of the was Aqualung
(I think we also had Johnny Winter And..), and a small bag of microdot LSD.
When we got there, we realized that there was not much to do there but drive around, jump into the ocean, watch for dolphins, & listen to our meager music collection.
So every morning we'd get up eat breakfast, drop a tab, & go driving around , listening to music. Our favorite tape instantly became Aqualung - we literally learned every word & sang along....lol. What a crazy beautiful time it was, so detached from reality, but so in love & entralled by the music pouring forth into our brains.:nauga:

    I have a Tull memory to share...although it's kind o' embarassing.

The venue was Massey Hall, the year was....1991 or 1992; I don't have the stub in front of me.

Myself and three other friends had front row tickets, dead centre. I had camped out to get the tickets as the concert was on a friend's birthday so I brought him for free.

During the concert, we start smoking skunk-y buds...and Ian stops the show to complain from stage; "I thought this was a non-smoking auditorium" or something similar. He even glared at us while speaking.

We extinguished the offensive...to him...culprit and he continued with the show...but man, I felt three feet tall. One of my friends was complaining that Ian had "outgrown" his audience...we weren't the only ones smoking but we were directly in front of him....but I still felt guilty about pissing him off....he needs his lungs for his vocals and his flute so I don't blame him for saying something.
