I finally was able to pick both of these up from my local record dealer. Money well spent, IMO. I love these two CD comps. Not only for the track selection, but for the sound quality as well. Like Bob Lovely has said earlier, I have many of the songs that are on the Dick Bartley CD, but still, the sound quality is exceptional through out. I've never heard the Troggs track ("Love Is All Around") sound so good before. I'm familiar with the 3 track mix of this song, but it never sounded quite balanced to me before. Not a problem on this disc. Ditto, for the Procol Harum song as well. Funny story, I played this disc on the way home from buying it. I played it again once I was at home. The following day my wife and I are going out, I take the Bartley disc for the ride (I still hadn't had enough of the disc). We're in my wife's car, and American Breed's "Bend Me Shape Me" comes on and my wife turns to be and says, "something is different about this song." So I tell her that the stereo version was sped up to match the original 45 version. Hey, she's learning! I'm proud! I'm also another listener who wasn't familiar with "Peter Rabbit" song. Still, it's nice to have it on this collection.

The "Sweet Souls Sounds" is an excellent compilation of Soul songs and like the Bartley CD, has excellent sound through out. Both of these disc's are on heavy rotation here at my house. My hat is off to both Tom Daly and Mark Matthews for doing a great mastering job on these CD's. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to up coming releases on Eric.

Late to the party but after finally getting and listening to Sweet Soul Sounds, I'm loving it, and hoping for more.

As others, I'm blown away by "I'm the Lover Man", one of 10 or so I don't really know. I would say it was almost a dated sound by 1964, but the style is king in my books.

I don't know why I know "You're Looking Good", as the disk says it only reached #102. Perhaps I've heard it on some import cd? Anyway, its one of those punchy songs in my mental jukebox like "Treat Her Right", that knocks me out!

I love the two blues-ish tracks by Little Johnny Taylor and Johnny Adams.

Wasn't too crazy about "You're the One", kept hoping it would end...

If there's to be more of this stuff, could they include "Funky Nassau", please ?:)

BTW, a country soul compilation set with more Clarence Carter, plus Percy Sledge, Joe Simon, Joe Tex, etc., would probably fill holes in a lot of people's collections?

If you ever come across a 45 by Johnny Adams called "Part of Me," grab it. Incredibly great soul ballad issued on the Watch label. Not on CD that I know of...

Grant I'm realizing from the cd booklet, that as a 45, this number was split in two. Maybe 3 minutes of it was easier to take.

"Funky Nassau" was also split into two parts on the original LP also.
