Would love to see some of the classic Yes catalog given some TLC on an audiophile CD label:

    Fragile
    CTTE
    Topographic Oceans
    Relayer
    Going For The One

Big Country: "The Crossing" (Fantastic album that has never had a decent sounding release in any format)
The Moody Blues: "This Is The Moody Blues" (remixed songs so individual tracks for a home made compilation culled from the individual albums won't do. I'm hoping it will be released on SACD, but frankly I doubt it will be.)
Linda Ronstadt:"Hasten Down the Wind"; "Prisoner In Disguise"; "Simple Dreams"; "Heart Like A Wheel" (I realize this last title was just just realized on vinyl - a CD issue as well would be nice).

    The first 7 ELO albums.

Head East - Flat As A Pancake

    All Steely Dan albums

    Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown

I'm sure I'll think of others.

Wasn't "Fragile" just released by MFSL on CD and by AP on vinyl?

    Both Jellyfish albums

    The XTC catalog

The Black Crowes catalog (Lions strictly optional!)

    Audiophile LPs of McCartney/Wings solo

New Doors LPs (I know about the DCCs, but they're shy a couple and the rest are REALLY expensive!)

    Prince

    Springsteen

    U2

    maybe Sting/Police

    Van Halen

The rest of the early Yes catalog (still haven't heard the AF Fragile -- it was backordered!)

Todd Rundgren-Hermit of Mink Hollow....I find this to be even stronger than his much-loved "Something/Anything" plus the sonics are so clear for a Todd album. None of his trademark warped, wonky EQ's. If Steve Hoffman got his hands (and ears) on this 35 minute nugget...mmmmmmmm....PARADISE!

Dusty Springfield-Cameo...This overlooked gem (that describes 98 percent of Dusty output, actually) would be a brilliant outlet for an audiophile label. Steve's intoxicating 'breath of life' added to an already intoxicating album would make this more potent than any naughty, illegal chemical.

IIRC, the general consensus on the SH Forum in the past has been that the MFSL "Sundown" album is a mild disappointment and not an advancement over the original vinyl. (Not that it sounds terrible, but slightly better EQ choices could have been made.)

"Sundown" is one of my favourite records and I would like to see it re-mastered and re-pressed, perhaps by this new WB audiophile division.

Mobile Fidelity didn't do a great job on the Sinatra box set. Wrong tapes on about 1/2 the albums, bad Eq (on most - though not all - of the records), etc. It's also not the whole catalog. I wish it was the ultimate, but it's not even close, even though a few records turned out pretty well in there.

How 'bout the early Ry Cooder catalog?

How about the original MCA CD's done by Roger Nichols? While maybe not quite "audiophile" CD pressings, they are flat transfers, somewhat cheap & readily available, & sound pretty damned good to me. They compare VERY favorably to the few original vinyl pressings that I own.

Ditto! The treatment Steve did for the Nat albums on Sinatra's catalog would be amazing!

Capitol just released the a 2 CD set of Linda's solo Capitol albums which includes Heart Like a Wheel so if an indie reissue label were to license Heart Like a Wheel for CD, it would compete with their product, but if MFSL were to license this one for gold disc, it wouldn't compete with their issue.

I am planning to, but I have not purchased that Capitol set, yet. So, I have not heard the sound quality of this latest release of "Heart of a Wheel". It would be nice to have the album (alone) on an audiophile CD.

The part about the wrong tapes is news to me-- I'll have to look into that. And MoFi didn't own an EQ at that time, so that's news to me too. I think the set is great, and it's better by an order of magnitude than anything else that's out there. You're right about it being incomplete, though-- I wish it weren't. But it's all the best, since it's only missing the show stuff IIRC.

All of the mono only albums in that set, except for Songs For Young Lovers/Swing Easy and Look to Your Heart (a compilation), come from early 1960's dubs Capitol made (marked MASTER) that were Eq'd and had added echo. The stereo albums come from the 2-track stereo mixed masters.

The Eqing I speak of in the MoFi set is independent from what was on the tapes they used. If Mobile Fidelity didn't have an equalizer, how did they Eq The Beatles box, which was done before the Sinatra box? Even Stan has admitted that set was Eq'd, and not to his liking (at IIRC Gary Giorgi's request).

Stan's claim that the Beatles tapes were EQ'd is false, according to Gregg Schnitzer, and the beginnings of all that bad blood go back to his and Gary's disagreements over ownership in the company. Note Stan has never made these claims in print.

Well, I don't need to get between personal issues, but the Eqing is audible. I'm not opposed to judicious Eq that well serves the music & recordings, but this doesn't to my ear. Not trying to spoil your enjoyment of the set - enjoy!

BTW - I have seen printed interviews with Stan with these claims regarding The Beatles MoFi box set. Something about The Beatles he did being overzingy.
