You are right Brad. Hellen Reddy's Greatest Hits (and More) is just unlistenable. It is just one of the first generation of CD's that sound thin and metallic.
Mikey, Thanks for Twist A Rama!! God it's even worse than what I remembered it *EVER* being. BTW all the info I told you about is in the CD's booklet. Give it a read. There's even a few more things that I hadn't realized up until now. ROTFLMAO
Elton John's Greatest Hits,Vol.2 on MCA.One of the first CDs I bought back in '87.Almost made me give up on them.Sounded like an MCA cassette. If you've ever heard one of those, you know what I mean...
My vote goes for The 13th Floor Elevators (on any label!) although some are slightly better than others.
While many here would disagee with me, I find those mid-80s "target CDs" to be lifeless. Among my other flat CDs are the old Atlantic Records pressing of Bad Company's "10 from 6." Dave
I might just take you up on that! Then again, the people who frequent this forum would probably pay top dollar for them! LOL!
bad stuff >>>youre welcome Terr...glad to be a service. Yup, out of my collection of about 600 oldies Cds, this one is the worst.
Razor & Tie has a more comprehensive single disc comp of her work plus Raven has a couple twofers of original albums.
1. Bob Norberg's remaster of "Sports", by Huey Lewis & The News. Jamie said it best. 2. Bob Norberg's remaster of "Rebel Yell", by Billy Idol. It sounds just as bad as "Sports". Only worse. Somehow, Bob made sure to kill Billy's bad attitude... 3. Olivia Newton John's "Greatest Hits". I can't remember the label, but it's a German disc. Digititititititis! I can listen to the squared little bits! 4. Christopher Cross' "Best Of". It's also a German disc. It sounds strikingly similar to the ONJ disc. 5. Queen's "In Nuce". I know this is sort of a ROIO, but it's absolutely, definitely the worst CD I've ever heard that is sold in stores.
Black Sabbath's Technical Ecstasy (Castle/Essential! remaster). I don't have a problem with most of the discs in this series, but this one sounds like ****e. Honestly, tinny, thin, sounds almost like a cassette played through bad headphones. UGH.
Lou Reed!!! Has anyone heard the CD version of Legendary Hearts? Now that one's a real stinker. Usually Lou cares about stuff like mastering, too, but that CD is approximately 50% of the volume of a redbook CD, and sounds like it was made off a cassette. No, a cassette sounds better. It's one of his best albums, too, so he should do something about it. -s
The two worst CD’s I’ve ever encountered were…. Three Dog Night ‘Captured Live at the Forum’. That being said, the actual album didn’t sound all that great either. The other was The Paul Butterfield Blues Band ‘East-West’. Which sounded like listening through a tin can and a string.
The worst I've ever heard is probably Chicago Transit Authority 50th Anniversary remix. Granted, it's the remix and not necessarily the CD sound quality, but damn. Dishonorable mention to Neil Diamond/The Bang years, which is quite unlistenable.
Reparata & the Delrons ~ When a Teenager Cries on Collectibles. Only one stereo channel present. The Legend of Paul Revere (legacy) 30 years on nobody has come close to this. Horrid. BEWARE!!!!
I got this quite recently not expecting much but I really wanted the Smile material. I have to agree with this old post. It's truly horrible and I really struggled to get through it. I do wish Brian and Roger would release an easily available good sounding version of this material and wonder if the master tapes or anything close still exist.
I had a 10 Best Helen Reddy which sounds great but I now have a UK best of with 20 tracks including everything on Greatest Hits (and More) which does sound great.
The expanded remaster of the Little River Band Greatest Hits is horrible sounding. The original 12 track CD, 10 Best and the 2 CD Reminiscing set on Rhino are better sounding.
