John Lennon stated he borrowed those lyrics from the Elvis Presley song "Baby, Let's Play House".

Seems like I remember Ian saying the song was about life plunging forward to the inevitable end. "Old Charlie" being God. Maybe I dreamed it...

As we once discussed on the ICE board, the Eagles seem to have never met a woman they liked or trusted..."Witchy Woman," "Lyin' Eyes," "Victim Of Love," "Heartache Tonight" etc.:(

I never thought of that one as being particularly anti-female, actually. It seems to be about more general issues and not a rant against women - the title just SOUNDS like it should be about that...

Elvis Costello has stated that Aftermath was an influence on This Year's Model. This Year's Girl is musically (and somehat lyrically) similar to Stupid Girl and You Belong To Me is based on The Last Time (although this song is not from Aftermath. Elvis is another artist who has been accused of writing misogynistic lyrics.

All it takes is getting divorced. In the aftermath, the "bitter to women" songs sometimes make more sense that way.

Hmmm... Maybe that's why they titled the album "Aftermath".

Hey, it shouldn't be too surprising, given that Keef still calls 'em "chicks" and "old ladies."
