Wasn't able to pry disc 2 of the box set out of my car CD player this week. What a band. Which I caught them live. Incendiary.

Never had that problem with my USB C Stick :) I do recall the old cassette days however....

Man, thanks. For non-Brits, this was always inexplicable. I've been wondering about it for around 31 years.

Yes, it is. There was another thread somewhere about the best 'greatest hits' issued by artists and I nominated this one. As far as a single-disc compilation goes, this is as good as it could get.

Never knew that either. For me a 35 year old mystery solved - Thanks!

In the US especially NYC area Esso became Exxon. There were still Esso stations around when I was young.

My favourite Police song is The Bed’s too big without You and my favourite version of it is the one on The Police: Live! CD.

[Edit] - Some context, I’m 55 and was a Police fan from 1979.

I’ve still got all the (originally purchased by me upon release) albums, the 6 Pack Boxset and various 12” singles.

I discovered music in 1979 and The Police played a huge part in that.

I’ve seen them live many many times, including twice in one night at London’s Hammersmith Odeon and Palais.

They’re probably in the top 3 of most played artists, with Regatta probably being my favourite Police album, if not one my favourite albums of all time.

I imported (via a company advertising in Melody Maker or similar) the double 10” version of Regatta De Blanc.

It must have been at the original release date.

I must have been 11 at the time and I still have it to this day.

Yes, this was news in 2021.

Historical Tape of the Police's First U.S. Show to Be Released (ultimateclassicrock.com)
Forgotten audio footage of The Police's first U.S. gig found | Toronto Sun
The Police Unearth Recording Of One Their Earliest U.S. Gigs At CBGB's | iHeart

The date of the recording is not clearly specified.... According to The Police Wiki they performed at CBGB on:
1978-10-20 (Stewart was already in NYC .... Sting & Andy flew in and went straight to the gig with Miles.)
    1978-10-21
    1978-11-14
    1978-11-15
    1979-04-08

Whichever one it is, bring. it. on! :pineapple:

As a 17 year old from London in 1978 I saw them play at The Nashville Room, just as they were about to make it large!
John Peel playing Roxanne was a stimulus.
Went with a friend but it was a scramble to get into this small pub venue, so he didn't make it. I was near the front, and remember someone pushing a mic into Andy Summers face. He wasn't pleased!!!
Then saw them at a bigger venue. Can't remember where.
I even had a phase of wearing a green jumpsuit a'la Sting.
But being a fickle teenager I moved on quickly.
Didn't even buy their 1st album.
The band Magazine were more my style!
    Then came Siouxie etc etc.

Well I just saw Mr. Stingo. He still brings it. His drummer did do a decent Stewart impression.

I'm hoping to catch Stewart live again. Think the only time I've seen him was when he toured for the Rhythmatist which I think was in the '90s years after the album was released in '85.

I saw Stewart on that tour as well and I was able to meet him after the show too. Stewart could not have been nicer.
