I might do it for the first 3 albums. i am re-listening to them now. some great tracks in there. and good on sting for getting $5k a day from a rapper for misusing samples: Diddy says he pays Sting $5,000 per day for sampling 'Every Breath You Take' without his permission later | || | || | | negative1
Hmm. I’m assuming that must be why he asked Jimmy Page ahead of time. Jimmy could have just said no and saved us all a lot of sonic aggravation, but no…
I have a question... I noticed in the Around The World film occasional shots of Stewart pointing his camera around. Is the Everyone Stares film a recommended watch for a solid Police fan? Thanks. Regards, Dave
I'd recommend it in an instant. Great footage and Stewart's voice over is quite a lyrical insider's view from the eye of the storm. Haven't watched it for a while but I'll dig the blu ray out now, so thanks for the reminder!

My girlfriend and I saw this show last year, it was pretty great at least in person! Admittedly the female singers he had were very good but not a perfect fit for the songs and the arrangements. Stewart of course sounded great but his drumming was dialed back even more than I expected due to an orchestra not really being able to improvise. The full show had some of his solo pieces from soundtrack work which were really good to hear live and looks like this audio release skips a couple of other Police songs he had in the show. Stewart also 'conducted' a song and had some funny banter in-between some of the songs. Too bad there's no video component to this release with multiple cameras to see more of the orchestra, at our show the audience could only see the stage from the front so no way to really see any of the orchestra up close. Anyway, I'll probably buy the CD version of this but I can say this won't be something to give to a casual Police fan.
ok, for record store day in the UK, the bonus tracks are 'every bomb you make', and an instrumental, i don't think the instrumental was previously released either. its the first segment of the video: later || | || | | | || negative 1
Here’s “Every Bomb You Make” from the A-side of the 2nd (yellow) single… The Police/Spitting Image - "Every Bomb You Make" [Audio] Best-quality 50K views · 5 years ago Alternate lyrics special version of the mega-hit "Every Breath You Take", specially recorded by The Police/Sting for the UK 80's parody TV program "Spitting Image". Extremely hard to find in such a nice stereo studio quality.
I assume the instrumental is the same as the one on the Japanese 7": The Police - Every Breath You Take / Roxanne
I picked up a copy of this RSD release yesterday at my local store. It's an unusual and very elegant product, basically a gatefold 2 x 7 inch single, housed in a top quality thick cardboard sleeve with attractive artwork. I could have bought an album for the same price but decided this was more 'unique'. I recommend grabbing a copy if you can find one.
I think only the UK received that. Very nice looking! I'd be even more interested in a box of three 12" singles from that era (like the Depeche Mode series).
Sting doesn't look happy during this performance. I hope he called the police. (Note: Not sure if this is a joke video or not)
I think the reason The Police worked is because they were all equally egotistical and pushing against each other while Sting is now just the unquestionable boss. "White reggae" is very important to examine critically, yet the Police also were much more stylistically broad...fascinating dynamics. Everyone says the Police are not an albums act. Rubbish. Great B-sides group, them. Whenever I hear "Every Breath You Take" playing in public, I always think "I hate this song!" but then I listen to "Every Breath You Take" by myself and I'm like "I love this song!". I also really appreciate how The Police utilize space in their arrangements. Copeland is a propulsive skittery jazz drummer like Ginger Baker, Sting is a funky melodic bassist like Jamerson and Macca, and Summers is difficult to classify - he almost plays in the echoes or reflections of the others, brushstrokes around the action, like serving back the musical racquetball.
"Breath" works precisely because the stalker protagonist sincerely believes he's singing a tender love song. And Summers' arpeggios. And the 4/4 drive. And the middle eight. And the repetition. And the accents of the piano and strings.
They were cool to meet at Peaches Records in South Denver in '80. Their Rainbow Music Hall Show later was killer. I think The Specials opened. Sting is a lot like Jamerson. Andy is impossible to pin down who he is like. Copeland is like a fusion drummer.

I enjoy the oddness he occasionally brings to the table. My favorite strange Summers tune has got to be "Friends." Regards, Dave
When the 2/22/81 concert in Australia was first broadcast on WNEW-FM way back when, in between songs were interviews and commentary by the band about the tour etc. In one cut Andy is talking about a strange family they met and he's doing voice imitations etc. Very amusing. I've mentioned before a friend of mine ran into him in L.A. years ago and spoke with him. He said he was a friendly guy with a very good sense of humor.
