    Yeah. Completely laughable.

Didn't bother to mention this one: Did Jethro Tull outsell the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined, in 1967?
    Yeah, didn't think so.

:confused:I am stunned at how close this poll is. One is a real group, the other is not.

PS- I like some of "The Monkees" songs but really!

This must be a joke. I had to vote Tull because The Monkees never even enter into it. I watched the Monkees on TV as a lad and always considered them a novelty band. When I hear their stuff now I still have the same opinion.

I think this is a purposeful joke, and also a funny joke. It makes no sense at all. So I pick the Monkees, because I had a chicken sub for dinner last night at Cousins' subs and got a free cookie out of it for no reason.

Walking through forests of palm tree apartments
scoff at the monkeys who live in their dark tents
down by the waterhole, drunk every Friday,
eating their nuts saving their raisins for Sunday.
Lions and tigers who wait in the shadows,
they're fast but they're lazy, and sleep in green meadows...

The rivers are full of crocodile nasties
and He who made kittens put snakes in the grass.
He's a lover of life but a player of pawns
yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn
to light up His Jungle as play is resumed.
The monkeys seem willing to strike up the tune.

Oh very serious about some, but not that. Only imo, the Monkees after I was 13 or so was a total joke and I wouldn't be caught dead with any of that music. That was me and pretty much everybody I knew that was my age. A few younger hung in there a year or so longer. I have no problem if somebody else like them but to compare them to Tull is a joke of all jokes. Apples and oranges as somebody else said.

  18. To be fair, Jethro Tull were not a band in 1967. I suspect if you went much beyond 1967 you would not find the Monkees outselling Tull (or much of anyone else). I know those 1967 concert-going Monkees fans had little appreciation for Jimi Hendrix (one of the support acts), dosn't make one better than the other either.

Yup, that's pretty much what I was saying as well. I was 13 when their TV show started.

A lot of zeal against the Monkees for very non-musical reasons. If you were to disect The Monkees songwriting, production, performances and could provide a compelling argument why and what it is you are hearing in those grooves that is so inferior as to be a total joke- I could respect what you're saying. But you're argument is about as valid as saying "The Monkees just aren't cool anymore so I'm not supposed to like them." It's an argument a 13 year old would use.

Cool. Hope you guys are wearing the right shoes this year too!

That would have been a reasonable statement any year in the 60s other than 1967

The only compelling argument I need today is I just don't care for them.45 years ago it was different.

The Monkees, an entirely fictitious TV studio concoction consisting of pseudo musician/actors and designed primarily for it's appeal to pubescent girls vs Jethro Tull, a collection of talented and innovative musicians with a long and proud history of creating real music with actual substance? This is a joke, right?
