Ah, that was covered up by the Rhino copyright. I had a feeling there probably was a real one there. So if I can get a high-res Nes and the correct text for the copyright, it'll be done!

Well, I put way too much time into this... but here's what it might've otherwise looked like:

    thanks, dangiedr.

    :righton:

Nice alt. Tear Drop with Peter, steve. great job. I would imagine Peter would look that way (looks like it could be around the time of Head based on the haircuts).

Incidentally, if you look closely at the bottom margin of the original artwork, there's pencil notation, beginning with something crossed out, then 3 figures (black line and then an editorial |<-- to remove the Peter portion of the image

Excellent job, Steve! How did you do that?

You really nailed getting the background striping, too!

I am loving these new covers. All winners, guys. When my Monkees mashup project finally gets off the ground, I should contact you for cover ideas. :)

This is by far the best thread I have ever come across on this board. Kudos to all who made it what it is! :righton:

Steve, if it isn't asking too much, PLEASE tell me how you did that.

Did you redraw Peter? Did another version of the illustration exist? What about the "second Peter Tork" theory (there are many "clues" regarding his 1966 "death" following an accident at a taffy factory, at which point he was replaced by a man identified as "Stephen Stills" who wore a wig and false teeth)? C'mon, let us in!

It's so well done, you're killing me.

I have to agree here. I am totally amazed at these things.

Now can someone re-draw the Present cover with Peter's face in there?? :D

That's brilliant, Minerworks. Pure genius. I'm going to set this as my wallpaper when I get home! :righton:

Also, kudos to Steve for that amazing Tear Drop City sleeve, and to Sunset Sam for that hilarious L.A.S. single.

I'm with Cell Phone Fred: this is one of the best threads I've EVER seen!

I totally agree- talk about revisionist's history, you guys have totally reinvented the last 2 years of 60's Monkees history! Here's what I think the Monkees (especially Mike) would have liked for the cover of the 3rd album: Kirschner's head on a platter in the middle of the hands intertwined on the HQ cover. Anyone want to try that one?

Anyone up to present their take on "The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees" alternate cover art (since the boys simply hated the one used)?

These original artwork pieces for the cover of Pisces were up on eBay not more than a couple of months ago (same auction had the "Tear Drop City" sleeve artwork).....
