I am interested in this as well. I recently ran across a copy of the box sent and wondered how it compared to both the original issues and the remastered Hounds of Love. I searched the archives and didn't notice a clear consensus.

Ok, so how does the original issue of Hounds Of Love compare to the remastered cd? Since the remaster came out, I have never seen the original one for sale anywhere!

I never liked the original HOL CD (I had the vinyl first, UK pressings of both). I recently bought the remaster cheap, and prefer it. For some reason the side 2 sequence seems more improved than the side 1 tracks. I haven't compared it to my Japan set yet, but this set seems to excel on albums before HOL....

Just picked up a Black Triangle CP32 of "Lionheart" and am surprised to see here that it shares the same peak levels as the UK release.
Nevertheless will be interesting to heart it when it arrives.

I did not know that UK and Canada did not share the same mastering on Hounds of Love!
Peak levels for my Canadian (from the boxset):
    78.4 / 66.9 / 85.6 / 63.6 / 89.4
    46.0 / 53.2 / 91.9 / 72.3 / 99.9 / 82.9 / 100.0

Not having compared any peak levels, I must say that the UK CDs are a step or two above the Canadian CDs. Not surprised that it's a different mastering.

These were the days when the Canadian CDs were mastered from tapes in Canada, the UK CDs were mastered from the tapes in the UK (and one step closer to the masters, right?), the USA CDs were mastered from the tapes in the USA... si?

Still, my preferred versions are the Japanese first pressings. I have them all.

The interesting thing about my comparison of the UK issue and remaster is the HUGE increase in levels of the title track and "Sheep". Of course, this could be caused by a single peak but even so, it seems on the face of it to be excessive. I haven't actually listened to the original yet so I can't say which I prefer.

    WG vs Japan CP35-3045 (6A1 & 1A1)

Finally got to carry out the comparisons on my reviewer Friends system, and on my own.
We preferred the WG pressing over the two Japan discs I have; interestingly the two Japan discs offered some small differences between them!!.
These three were for us well ahead of the UK pressing which sounded harsh by comparison. The mini LP was a distant last.

The WG disc was just a bit more musical, IMHO (IOHO)

Gary, do you have any idea if the cd pressings on the original Japanese "This Woman's Work" boxed set are any different than your 1st pressings?
    Thanks - John

From the listings at CDuniverse and Amazon US and UK I'm getting the impression that HOL remaster with bonus tracks is going OOP. I have two questions:
    1. If my choices are between non and remastered made in the USA CDs which one would you choose based on sound quality alone?
    2. Has anyone heard of a deluxe edition of HOL? I am assume they'll add B sides that were missed on the remaster?
    Thanks, Trevor.
P.S. I'll post this at the HOL thread also.

Sorry, I have no idea. I don't have the original Japanese "This Woman's Work" boxed set. I have the EU copy and it sounds the same as the normal UK (or EU) releases.

Not necessarily. But if all the tracks are at 100%, or if they are all the same and near 100%, then it’s a strong indication that it’s been mastered hot.

I was listening to the US cd of The Whole Story today. I noticed I had to crank the volume on it compared to the playback volume of most of my cds. Comparing it to the UK and Japan versions posted in this thread it looks like it might be a unique mastering:
