The Royal Guardsmen's "Snoopy vs. Red Baron" leaps to mind.

Any Beatles beer hall chant like "Mr. Kite" fits.

"You're A Good Man Albert Brown (Curse You Red Barrel)":

    Tomorrow - "Colonel Brown"
    The Yardbirds - "Stealing, Stealing"
The Royal Guardsmen - "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron"

Let's start off with these. More? I know there is more. Lets see some chiming in.

Yep, I got The Royal Guardsmen, but I don't hear "Mr. Kite" on this Dukes track. The song "Mr. Kite" is on the comp for at least one Dukes track already, anyway.

How about the 'dodgy piano' intro and the "wish that I was there..." singalong chorus of Traffic's 'Berkshire Poppies'.

Perhaps The Kinks' "Mr. Pleasant"? Or Small Faces' "Lazy Sunday"?

    From my notes and interviews:

David Bowie/Oscar - "Over The Wall We Go"
Whistling Jack Smith - "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman"

I don't know if I'll include "Kaiser" as it is an instrumental. Maybe. But, does anybody know of good CD sources for these two songs, especially, "Over The Wall"?

Another Small Faces song I would throw in is "The Universal"

I'll put it on the comp. The Dukes themselves do mention "The Universal" as an influence, but I don't hear it myself. Could you point to the part of the song that is similar to "Albert Brown"?

"Psychotic Reaction" by the Count Five...that looped reverb guitar thing is a direct descendant.

When the brass band and bass drum comes in. Has that same "march style" as in "Albert Brown".

Influential songs that can't be pinned on a specific Dukes song:

Manfred Mann - "Semi-Detached Suburban Mr. James"
The Rolling Stones - "In Another Land"
The Rolling Stones - "The Lantern"
The Rolling Stones - "On With The Show"

    * Duplicate - used on another Dukes song.

Okay, "Albert Brown" is filled out nicely. I've added another Small Faces song "Rene" to the list. I'm sure we could add some more songs to it - so if ya have one, chime in.

Also, added "Psychotic Reaction" by the Count Five to "Little Lighthouse", thanks for that suggestion!!! I'd like to see "Little Lighthouse" get filled in a bit more.

    Next song up:

    "Collideascope"

The middle section is very "I Am the Walrus," as well as later sections with the trippy strings.

  15. Procol Harum's "Kaliedescope"

    ...well for lyrical content :D

I know this song is out of bounds for your comp, but Colliedescope sounds a lot like XTC's "Seagulls Kissing, Kissing" from the Big Express.

Different tempo, but I hear a little "My Friend Jack" by The Smoke in the guitar/bass interplay, I think.

For "Collideascope", all the little spoken word snippets in the song remind me of the following:
    "I Need You" The Who
"Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" Yardbirds

I also get a bit of the Small Faces' "Itchykoo Park" (mostly in the harmonies) and whatever inspired "Let Me Roll It" by Wings...although I'll grant that the latter isn't precisely in the scope you're searching for.

    "Collideascope" (updated):

    The Move - "Blackberry Way"
    The Beatles - "Hey Bulldog"
The Beatles - "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite"*

Okay, I've added a two more songs "Hey Bulldog" and "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite". The chords of "Collideascope" are similar to the "You can talk to me" part of "Bulldog". The drums/tempo are reminiscent of "Mr. Kite".

Yeah, definitely "Shiny Cage". Though, the acoustic guitar on "Collideascope" sounds similar to "I'm Only Sleeping". Should we add IOS to this song, too?

I guess "Walrus" could be in there, hmm, gotta think on that one.

I gotta listen to Procol Harum's "Kaliedescope". We should all listen to the 60s bands, US and UK, Kaliedescope. There might be something on their records. Most likely, if there is anything, it'd be the UK band. Oh, and we can't put a band on here like XTC! Who the heck are they anyway!!!

"I Need You" is an interesting pick. I don't know if that really fits. If we put "Walrus" on the list for this song, that should take care of the talking bits.

I was thinking there may be some Small Faces for this song for the "Wakey, wakey, little sleeper" part. I don't know if "Itchykoo Park" is THE Small Faces song that fits it, it may be. Another Small Faces song I was thinking may fit this song is "Donkey Rides A Penny A Glass".

I think "My Friend Jack" has influenced many Dukes songs, so we should include it in the general influence section.
