OK, My bad, I checked your original post and you clearly said favorite.

I guess for "best" you have to put on your critics hat and consider impact, influence, innovation, stuff like that. It's hard, I always qualify my all time top 10 and my year end top 10 as my Favorites, because I don't feel comfortable enough in my Rock N Roll knowledge to say whats best. Since 'Best' was the subject here I gave it a try, my favorites would probably be different, hey, lets make a new thread....

Agree with ya a hundred percent on peanut butter, Dave. As long as it's Jif ... and crunchy ... none of that remastered, over-compressed crap.

John Dowland "A Dream", Hopkinson Smith. Hoppy (the world's greatest lute player) records Dowland (the world's greatest composer for the lute) for the first time. Naive E 8896. Fabulous sound.

Even if you specify the parameters for the new thread, some people will still turn it into into a pissing match. Look at the "career-killing albums" thread: it's an interesting, valid topic that could make for some interesting discussion, but there's too much "I hate this record" kind of stuff in there.

I think the only possible purpose a thread like this serves, for me at least, is to bring up music that I might otherwise never heard of and then go and search for it to see if it then can become "my" best. Keep posting what you think floats your boat and ignore what others think or say about them .

Peoples tastes are all over the place. I like Dylan. but tonight its all about Miles Davis for me. And he aint even alive in this decade. Who knows maybe my tatses suck too.. * shrug*.. I dont care. Its what "I" like. so meh.

When I saw this thread topic, I decided I was going to post a reply that said "you mean other than LOVE AND THEFT?"

Then I opened it, and the first note had it right. From that point, we've been playing for second place! :D

JcS (and, I'm quick to point out, second to Dylan's greatest overall record ain't bad)

Dylan's great, but George Harrison's "Brainwashed" isn't getting any love here, and that's been in regular rotation at my house since it came out. I think it's fantastic...

btw, for all the hype that will no doubt be thrown for Dylan, Wilson, etc., do yourselves a favor and check out Face the Truth by Stephen Malkmus.

It's not Pavement. It's not Silver Jews. It isn't easily pigeon-holed. Just very good songs, excellent lyrics and really cool guitar licks.

Depending on whether 2000 is the first year of this decade or the last year of the nineties...
If the decade starts in 2000, then my favorite album is L'Incroyable Vérité by Sebastien Tellier.
If it starts in 2001, then Sebastien Tellier's album which came out in 2000 is disqualified and therefore my favorite album of the decade is Free The Bees! by The Bees.

I was thinking best albums in the last ten years...Kid A was incredible too. I'll trade out OK Computer for Kid A.

My votes (from 2000 onward, in no particular order):

Emmylou Harris - Red Dirt Girl
Los Lobos - Good Morning Aztlan
Madeleine Peyroux - Careless Love (wish this sounded better, though)
Ben Harper - Diamonds On The Inside
    Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
Willie Nile - Streets Of New York
Madonna - Confessions On A Dance Floor
    Ryan Adams - Gold
    Sam Phillips - Fan Dance

Interesting that two of you chose two different albums by the Pernice Brothers. Love those guys, although my favorite is "Overcome By Happiness" which was released prior to 2000.
