I’m confused: Isn't a decade 10 years long? Wouldn’t that mean the best records of the past 10 years? If not, does the decade start in year “0” or year “one” (i.e., 2000 or 2001)?

Anyways, agree with Kid A (the only reason I did not include it was that Radiohead already occupied the #1 spot).

Since the title of the thread says "so far this decade," I'm thinking the original poster is looking for the best work since 2000 (or 2001, if you're mathematically picky).

    Point taken!

    That makes it:
    1) Kid A - Radiohead
    2) Love & Theft - Bob Dylan
    3) Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
    4) Pocket Revolution - dEUS
    5) Black Hole/Blank Canvas - Motorpsycho (but that may change since it is relatively "fresh")

  8. AFI - Sing The Sorrow

  9. Laservampire

Laservampire Down with this sort of thing

    Beck - Guero

Many people just see it as an Odelay re-hash, but it goes a little deeper than that for me :)

no offense but if this is the high point of this musical decade we're in trouble
number a) from what I've heard here, it's poorly mastered, overmaximized
    2) it's not as good as some of their earlier material...I also find it overproduced for their style
    3) they're turning emo...50 demerrits not against their music, but against the band members for pandering to this trend

The radio clip I heard for American Idiot (it contained the title) was just horrible musically. But the one or two full songs I have heard have not been that bad, much to my surprise.

I agree, except for the title track I was underwhelmed by this record, even Insomniac was way better IMHO.

More evidence that these "best whatever" threads are dopey. What's the use of listing something if we're gonna be told it sucks?

The "worst [whatever]" threads are even more pointless. Very few of the replies are threadcraps, but everyone still ends up irritated anyway.

I genuinely felt there was a lot of marketing and industry hype behind American Idiot and that it is overrated. Had to agree once another poster fired the first shot. I won't poop over most choices but just felt American Idiot is a case of the emperors new clothes.

and since I've hedged my bets so far I'll go on the record with Sufjan Stevens - Illinois as my best of the Decade

put Beck's Sea Change as my #2

and I'm sorry, I don't mean to belittle your opinion or anyone else's. (unless tootull picks that Anderson solo as best of the decade)

It's like this...."best"......how the hell are we going to pick "best"? What criteira do we use? It's like asking "best food". I'd say Peanut Butter! You'd say lobster! Favourite, now THAT'S another thing. Someone said Kid A. Good for them, they love that album. I do not, so do I pick it apart?

I'm not saying you have bad taste at all
your other two choices are much better candidates for album of the decade :righton:
