I think this is the best sounding Led Zep cd. Everything sounds fantastic; cymbals, guitars, bass, vocals. Listening as I type and Im amazed.

    Yeah, pretty awesome. :righton:

The entire discog. is pretty darn good, but 'I' is down right sweet. :D

Great sounding disc. I just got one at the local used cd store.

Agreed. Not my favorite LZ album, but it's a textbook example of a flat transfer that sounds organic and real.

It's virtually indistinquishable from the needledrop I made of my Classic Records vinyl. That's saying a lot.

    Hi pdenny,

I seem to recall applying some very gentle EQ on the Zeps.

    Best regards,

    Hi Barry,

Yes, for some reason, this is the best sounding of your Zep CD's. Amazing.

I'm eventually going to pick up my favorite Zep albums with Barry's mastering. I have AC/DC's debut album mastered by Barry and it just rocks. Much better than the remaster, IMO. I want to get the CSN "Couch" album too. :righton:

I also agree; I love Barry's Zeppelin I. He was able to get wonderful warmth out of sub-standard tapes (if I remember correctly, from he's posted here before).

The remasters are bright and brittle to me.

Catalog # 19126-2. There are a lot of Columbia House copies floating around; I don't know if that matters.

I've noticed that about several of my LZ needledrops from Classics. Not only do Barry's CDs sound similar but the waveforms look very close. I remember when I checked my ITTOD needledrop it was uncanny how close they were!

Once I found out the Barry mastered Zeps, I sought them all out and bought them from fellow SH members. I try to buy the Forum preferred discs.

    Great work, Barry!

I agree, this is the best sounding of the Zeppelin CDs. A great combination of a great recording and an excellent mastering. The accoustic guitar ion Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is a showcase for sonic quality.

You know, I remember the thread where Barry talked about the cast-aside tapes that Atlantic gave him, and even so, these still sound great to me! I've heard a noisy needledrop of the old Atlantic vinyl of III, which sounds great, but Barry's CD sounds very similar! I honestly don't worry about "definitive" remasters coming out (and Page most likely considers the Marino remasters definitive).

Houses of the Holy "target"--is this Barry's mastering?

    Hello Barry,

Basically if I know you mastered something I like I'm in on it  .. after listening to your Zep discs I walked away very impressed, and wishing other mastering engineers could have achieved the same results from their work .... but save from a few choice names (our gracious host included) we know how scarce good mastering engineers are out there.

The orginal vinyl destroys the cds...even the remasters.

I have three copies around (not that I ever listen to it). I have been meaning to do a shootout with these to see which sounds best to me, but I never seem to get around to it.

    The catalogue numbers are:

CD 19126 "Made In Canada By Cinram Ltd."
CD 19126-2 "Manufactured In U.S.A By Technetronics. Inc"
    20P2-2023 "Made In Japan"
