One of the best quad mixes that I have heard once I swapped the channels. Highly recommended for surround mix fans.

    There're 2 formats out there:

LP + DVD. This is the one most folks seem to have
CD. Can't wait to have my copy!

Several people in this thread are referring to the DVD as a DVD-Audio or DVD-A, it is neither, it is an audio-only DVD-V. There is a huge difference. DVD-A is lossless, DVD-V is lossy.

Isn't the DVD hi-rez, like a DAD? It isn't Dolby or DTS, right?

Deal breaker right there. Lossy is beneath me now that I have the Oppo.

    joking...sort of.

    The Quad mix is DTS.

The stereo mix is LPCM 96/24 - so yes hi-rez stereo (supposed flat transfer). The quad mix is either DTS or Dolby Digital. This disc a DVD-Video disc.

The Classic DAD's which were DVD Video 96/24 sounded just fine, I am willing to give this one a chance.

Thanks, Mike. If they would have released a DVD-Audio disc, they could have given us hi-rez surround as well. Of course, more people can play a DVD-Video disc, and DTS can sound quite good. At least we get hi-rez stereo.

Anyone that can play a DVD-V can also play a DVD-A. If their player can't handle DVD-A, that just means they can't play the MLP portion. They can still access the stereo, Dolby and/or DTS layers. That's the beauty of DVD-A and there's no good reason why this or any other surround mix shouldn't be in DVD-A.

Got mine today, listening to the surround disc as I type - simply awesome! I didn't bother switching the fronts and rears, sounds just fine to me as is <I'm set up right now in a small square bedroom anyway>. Nice use of the surround, there's a lot going on in these songs, both in instrumentation and effects!

I have no use for the lp, so I'll be posting it in the classifieds really soon. Nice touch that the cardsleeve the dvd is in has full artwork, front and rear.
The stereo mix states "flat transfer of original stereo master 96/24 PCM". Haven't listened to that yet, but how could it top the AF version that's so fantastic? Hmmm....

    Finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have the CD :goodie::goodie::goodie::goodie::goodie:

I only have the previous Chrystalis CD version to compare. Dunno the year, but I guess the previous CD is from 1990 or so.

First: The artwork is much more pale on the new CD :shake:. The previous version had way more colour.

Second: The booklet on the new CD version is really nice, but I'd loved to have the reproduction of the original back cover.

Third: Volume level is louder on the new CD. But it isn't a loudness war victim.
There's noticable clarity, impact and instruments separation on this new version. Mid range is wonderfully treated. There's also more clarity on highs. Bass is about the same.

Overall I'm really pleased with this version. It brings a whole new life to the previous CD.
Later I'll listen to the quad mix to stereo

Ignoring vinyl, is the new CD with the album, followed by the album quad to stereo mix, the one to get? I see there's also a BGO CD from 2011 on Amazon.co.uk. Thanks
