I will avoid the usual suspect from The White Album and post these 2 songs that ruin otherwise good/great albums. Does anyone actually listen to these songs when spinning these albums?

Free Form Guitar (Chicago Transit Authority)
Student Demonstration Time (Beach Boys: Surfs Up)

    Any others?

The only weakness The Beatles had for me was their hit & miss penchant for novelty type songs. I wish both "Maxwell Silver Hammer" and "Octopus Garden" were off Abbey Road.

The other one would be "You Like Me Too Much" off Help!

I would love to take off "Stupid Girl" of Aftermath by The Rolling Stones.

I don't need Free Form Guitar but it doesn't ruin the album for me. I suppose you could harpoon Octopus but I think it is one of Ringo's best. Yellow Submarine, on the other hand, nearly sinks Revolver.

    Oh yeah definitely!
Just imagine if side 2 was as strong as side 1, what an album it would be! (better than Forever Changes maybe?)

I reckon so. Side one of Da Capo is my favourite music they made, which says a lot.

Octopus also has a very snappy guitar solo…..there’s that too.

    "Going Home" from Aftermath.

Shame the Stones threw away "Sad Day" as a b-side a few months earlier.

Me too, as much as I love Forever Changes, I find Da Capo a bit more varied and less 'austere'.

I'll go with not one of the usual suspects: "Impressive Instant," the second track on Madonna's Music. She wanted to release it as a single, but Warners shot down the idea. I skip it when playing the CD.

I don't think they are awful songs. It's just the difference between iconic songs and ok songs is wide in disparity in quality.

Going Home is great until it isn't. It suffers the same problem as Revelation by Love but not as badly. Too long and goes nowhere. I don't skip it though.

Just my theory but I think the dissonance of the song is supposed to reflect the dissonance of the world, and listening with a meditative attention helps to receive it, let the song do it’s thing, and then let the song go. Sort of like a mini meditation lesson. How successful that lesson is, is still up to the listener!

Don't know how unpopular this opinion might be, but 'Rainy Day Women #12 & 35' on Blonde on Blonde.

It’s always sounded unfinished to me when you compare it with the lushness elsewhere on that album. And Al’s (?) vocal sounds annoying in parts. Just MHO.

I like it, it's one of my favourites on the album, but I was just as surprised to see someone not choose Sloop John B!
