Ouch!!, I just re-read my post,

sorry about the attrocious spelling. I did write it at about 2am (stayed up to watch Tony Blair government get re-elected),
I was feeling a little sleepy!!

I absolutely stand by what I said though, what a difference this SACD has made to my appreciation of this fine album!!

    Regards

    JJ

Where did you get this information from? Just wondering. I would love to check the data.

    Any link you can post?

I understand that Elliot Scheiner dropped the SACD mix after the Eric Clapton camp told him they wanted him to futz with the recording doing things like giving it a more modern sound and tuning certain guitar parts.

Only the surround mix, the stereo mix is the original.

I absolutely love this SACD. The dry, 'murky' sound is what this record is all about to me. IMO this disc is the closest to 'the vinyl sound' of all my SACDs.

Not to my ears. It sounds like the digital remix to me. I'll give it another listen, I could be wrong!

I think I'm a bit in the minority here, but I really love the surround mix on this title. I think it suits the recording just perfectly. It has a very "live" feel to it, and the way the drums sort of sit in the "middle" of the surround feel is just right, in my opinion. This is actually one of my favorite surround mixes.

FYI, the 20th anniversary remix might be out of print as a standalone, but it's still available with the Layla Sessions box set, which is still in print. I prefer the original, as well, but there are some things I kinda like about the remix (like the smoother transition between the two halves of the title track, for one).

They definitely used the original mix for the new SACD. Easiest way to tell - on the title track, the bass is panned hard-left on the original mix (never understood that), and centered on the remix.

Curious, I have an old 2-disc set, RSO Germany. Is the SACD better?

I just got this last week. Sounds great IMO....and I'm only listening to the redbook layer. I agree with the poster who raved about "BBB". :agree:

I agree. I like the surround mix on this one. It brings out new textures, yet still remains faithful to the original feel.

But then again, I tend to fall into the "less is more" camp with surround mixes.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. What made me think it was the remix is, the fade in on "Key to the Highway" is fast. The original mix had a more gradual fade in, which sounds more natural to me. I probably just wasn't listening, close enough. :)

David, don't know about the SACD, but this is the one that made me sell my MFSL version.
