I cancelled my pre-order as well. We'll all just have to do some sharp-eyed reporting on what sources are going to be used on the box set. My attitude now is to be wary of the box too at this juncture.

Wow, really disappointed after reading the latest news regarding the deluxe editions. That said, I was mainly interested in the box set anyways. So, assuming it gets released, that could still end up being nice. Here's hoping.

Some good news about this, the latest information posted over at imwan is that there is an "updated" Autumn Stone release planned for 2013. Hopefully this will be another deluxe edition, to match the announced series. Unfortunately, we need to wait until next year.

And this is in addition to the planned box set (this year) and an expanded BBC sessions (next year). That's certainly a lot of 'new' product but I wonder how many people will be buying. And how much will they be charging for some of these deluxe editions?

I'm supposed to be reviewing this set for noripcord.com and possibly lining up an interview with either Kenney Jones or Ian McLagan. I'll keep you posted. This will be the first time I dig really deeply into their catalog. Looking forward to it.

Well, if prior tendencies are anything to go by, the "rarities" on the boxed set will be electronically reprocessed stereo versions that were simply too awesome to include on the standalone discs.

Slightly OT but I just heard this for the first time. Maybe a box set contender?

That "Groovy" backing track is slated to appear on the Small Faces (1967) deluxe edition. Of course, that doesn't preclude it from appearing on the box set as well. ;)

The latest info from Universal Records (posted on imwan) is that "there'll be very little duplication for the Immediate tracks on the boxset to what is on the deluxe editions, maybe 7-10 tracks." Based on that comment, it looks like the box set is not going to include the actual albums. Instead it will only feature rarities, live, and alternates. That means if you want all of the remastered material, you would need to buy all of the deluxe editions as well as the box set.

The same post also says the box will include the live tracks from Autumn Stone, but not everything else because Autumn Stone is getting its own reissue next year.

That actually makes me a bit more excited about the possibilities for the box set. It sounds like that's where most of the choice rarities will be and it won't be duplicating all of the material that we already have in countless iterations.

As for the deluxe editions, I may give one of them a shot depending on the reviews, maybe Ogden's (Did they really need to make that three discs though? At $42, that's pretty exorbitant for what you're getting.). They better make damn sure they get the remastering right on these.

Mac also "approved" of the Fuel2000 release of Ogdens from 2003 and that was another in a long line of turds, so that's not exactly a seal of quality. To be fair, however, I don't think the 2011 remasters claimed to be from the master tapes.

So, just to get this straight, these May 2012 reissues are all from the master tapes for definite?

Having sprung for the 2011 remasters, I am prepared for the possibility that, notwithstanding the surviving band's claimed involvement, the upcoming Deluxes won't be much of a sonic improvement. Maybe the original recordings just aren't that good. So, I will buy the box, but only if it offers new content that hasn't already been endlessly recycled. The Deluxes look like more of the same.
Hope the reviews prove me wrong.

Has the mono mix of Ogden's ever been issued on CD? is it on the new set?

Yes and yes. Previously on a 3 CD set that was not roundly praised. In May, on a 3 CD set, for which the jury is out.

The mono mix will be included in the forthcoming set, though I'm not sure if it's been available in its entirety on CD before.

It came out in 2006 on the set Bill mentioned, with three discs in a tin. (The mono mix, the stereo mix, and a not-terribly-exciting BBC radio retrospective about the album.)

Not Ogden's, by the by. Ogdens'. Though there's little hope of getting people to punctuate it the right way at this late date.

The announced track list for the new set is here.

    I don't think that's entirely the case.

Some masters where found in Germany (see link to Imwan upthread) which will be used for the first time and some new sources from Andrew Loog Oldham, i think, are being used.

I asked Mick Taylor from Darling of Wapping Wharf and he said people who've heard the sets reckon they sound awesome but take that as you will.

A few years ago when I bought their first and second Decca albums, I thought I remember reading they hadn't found the real master (it might've helped had I read the previous posts. ) tapes. Both early albums sounded kinda lousy, especially the second one.

I love the music, but these could REALLY benefit from a better source and mastering.

All we can do is hope and if this new reissue proves to be far superior to what I have, I'm in ! :righton:
