Yes. I read that when they published the Virgin Remasters they were planning to include bonus tracks and So Young was a bonus track for the Some Girls Remaster. Mick finally re-recorded the vocals in 1994 during the sessions for Voodoo Lounge and published the song as a B side.

If Ladies and Gentleman...The Rolling Stones is included in the Exile package, my preference would be that the film be re-edited so that the emphasis isn't so much on Jagger. When guitar work is being done, I'd like to see Taylor and Richards do their fretwork during solos and important rhythm section work if enough cameras were at the shows and enough film was taped to allow for a re-edit job.

I too was at the Zigfield in NYC. Very interesting presentation, quad sound (nice for it's time) and not a shot of the audience * until the near end.

    * Please note PauL McCartney, it is possible.

I'd ONLY AND ONLY be interested in an Exile on Main St box set if its announced as 2 CD (provided that the second CD will be a truly good one, not a crappy 20 min of filler material) + Ladies and Gentlemen DVD ( 5.1 + original Quadraphonic mix + stereo + extras 1971-73, they have more than enough material)

A 2 CD set with a dozen of unheared (read sub-par) songs (leftovers) wouldn't be something worth looking for

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind this and other complaints about the bonus tracks before we have even heard them - by definition, unheard songs from the Exile sessions are leftovers from the sessions. In the case of some artists (Beach Boys, Byrds, Who, Bee Gees, etc.) previously unheard outtakes have been fantastic; in the case of others such as the Beatles, there really hasn't been that much unheard a-level material that wasn't released during the artist's career. I'm not a Stones expert, but from what I understand, they have often recorded much more material for each album than they ended up releasing at the time. I'm curious to hear this material. All of this bitching before this box set even comes out ("It'll be brickwalled - I won't buy it! Blah, blah, blah") reminds me of the similar bitching about the Beatles remasters before they came out.

  7. What didn't you like about them? Sure they're not deluxe packages, but they have a beautiful eq. Very vinyl-like. Plenty around here complain about the compression, but overall to my ears they are clearly the best of the 3 CD reissues.

  8. I'll buy the package no matter what because I'm totally on a Stones heater at the moment, but if they don't include a CD or DVD of live performance from 1972, i'll be disappointed. All they have to do is dust off one of the two live sets that were prepared at the time - Decca Unreleased Live Album 1972 and Ladies and Gentlemen.

yeah, the frisbees were made of styrofoam and had the stones tongue in relief on one side. i'd kept it for several years but probably sold it or tossed it, so to speak. i also had the poster...anyway, the ziegfield showing was definitely a fun experience. it was all a little rough around the edges, which made it more interesting than, say, listening to scorcese as in shine a light

  10. Seems like I'm going against the flow here, but I'd much rather have a set of EXILE studio outtakes than live material. Yes, the live material from this era is fantastic, but IMO it doesn't belong as bonus tracks on an album that contains 100% studio material.

Plus at least there's a decent amount of live material available unofficially. But there's very few - if any - completely unreleased songs from this album (I'm not including alternate mixes, rehearsals or instrumentals of songs that eventually made it to the album) so my hopes are very high.

Even if this re-release had just one completely unreleased studio track I'd buy this. I've bought reissues with no bonus tracks (Beatles, anyone?) and have been happy, I'll be thrilled with anything extra from the sessions that produced one of my favorite albums of all time.

I'd love to see a DVD of Ladies and Gentlemen included in this set, but the Rolling Stone article didn't mention one. That doesn't necessarily mean that there won't be one, but the only thing that we are sure to get at this point is audio outtakes.

Agree 100%. I'm mystified by the hostility towards the prospect of getting studio outtakes from this, or from any, Stones album. Isn't that what Stones fans have been wanting since, like, forever? Apparently not.

I think Ladies And Gentlemen DVD could be awesome, and without a doubt, the most attractive addition to the set if its re-worked properly, from a "director's cut" or something. The current quality of the bootleg version is awful, both in terms of picture and sound

I agree with the others, including the original quadraphonic mix would be really phenomenal, as well other songs surely filmed but not included on the original film.

... and that Ladies and Gentlemen poster is a classic :righton:

For me to buy again, it had better have the unreleased tracks, the 'Ladies And Gentlemen...' BluRay and a complimentary surround SA-CD.

  16. Then I guess you won't be buying it :D

Right, and for me CusBlues remastered movie on DVD in there too, so we are looking at a possible fancy man 4 disc box set.

I'm only buying it if Keith and Mick come to my house and play the bonus tracks live in my living room. :D

The book inside with be worth the price, as long as they don't over price the damn thing. Let's hope they don't try and follow Bob Dylan's Sony pricing his last deluxe set w/ extra disc. That really made a lot of fans mad.

    +1

In the end, I was very happy with the Ya Yas package. The B.B. King material is spectacular. And given the legal issues surrounding ABKCO and the Stones, I'm fine with getting the 5 song bonus disc. It was better than no disc at all.

    Exile box?

I'm not going to whine and complain. If we get anything at all along the lines of the Ya Yas box, it's good enough for me.

Both, and a couple of hot chicks to change the discs for me after they are done.

The Ya-ya's edition was nice looking, surely, but AWFULLY overpriced for its contents

I mean, it could have been 1 CD + 1 DVD. YES!, 1 CD containing all the Stones material (spliced onto 2 CDs ...), and the DVD with the footage and the Tina Turner and BB King stuff as audio bonuses.

We'd had the same material for half the price

Just to clarify, the thread is great news, but after two LP's, two CD's, posters etc., I think I've paid for a few a hours rent at the chateau already.

Great News! I'm interested in the bonus stuff for sure.

Lets hope more Stones albums get such treatment..
