"Loving Cup" dated from the Let It Bleed era. "Sweet Black Angel" began life as "Bent Green Needles" during the Sticky Fingers sessions. I'm not sure whether Exile versions of these tracks feature Nellcôte/L.A. overdubs on top of the original 1969 or 1970 backing tracks, or whether the Stones recorded entirely new backing tracks for these songs in '71/'72.

I've been checking around various places online today and I haven't seen any confirmations about Taylor doing any guitar work yet for the unreleased songs. We'll just have to see as time goes along. Like I said, it's an unconfirmed rumor, but the joint is jumpin over at the IORR board concerning the possibility.

Never happen. Mick will want these songs to sound like perfectly formed studio creations, ....... apparently at any expense, such as recording the vocal nearly 40 years later.

I just hope they do a much better job on sound than on the recent ones. God, they are horrible. I just saw the 'Loudness wars' clip linked from SH's section here and they are a perfect illustration of how this works.
Otherwise it a bit yipeeeeeeee and bring it on!!!

Jagger's solo hits comp from a couple years ago had some unreleased songs. I think one was form the 70's that was a well known in the trader community.

  6. I was pretty happy with Tattoo You, still am.

If the best the Stones can do is release an lp of 30 year old backings
with a new vocal dropped on top, and the record is really great as a result,
    I'm all for it.

I doubt anyone is going to mistake a 2009 Mick vocal for a 1972 Mick vocal anyway.
That instrument has changed too much in the interim. No one's fooling anyone.

I would buy an expanded 'Exile' in a heartbeat, as long as the sound is decent.

Sort of like Brian Wilson did with Smile 2004? :D There were hissy, unfinished outtakes of that album floating around for years, too - and they're still out there, for those who care.

I don't know what more there is to say - if you don't like the outtakes on the new set, no one's making you buy it. I'm personally excited about hearing the outtakes, even those with new vocals. I'm glad Bono recorded new vocals for the 1983 U2 track "Angels Too Tied To the Ground" - I'd rather hear that "new" track than never hear a finished version of that song at all.

This is the most accurate post of 2010! :D

  9. If you check the credits and publishing information of your copy of Exile, you will see some tracks published by Westminster Music - that's an ABKCO-era company.

It was, and it was presented as a new album at the time.

I'm not that optimistic guys :sigh:

After all the excitement we have about the 40th anniversary of Ya-Ya's we were given a CRAP release, with a 2nd disc with 5 songs that could have fit onto the first one, and a DVD with just some outtakes, instead of the full MSG concert :shake:

I can smell the "deluxe Main St edition" ... with a 2nd disc with about 5 rarities and 20 minutes long ... plus brickwalled remastered sound and butchered artwork :thumbsdn:

Based on the information we have so far, it looks like there will be 9 to 11 unreleased songs. The Rolling Stone article also mentions alternate takes/mixes of the previously released songs.

The big difference: ABKCO created the "Ya-ya's" set with no direct input from the Stones. The "Exile" set is being worked on heavily by the Stones.

That doesn't mean the "Exile" set will be awesome, but it doesn't have the same problems that handicapped "Ya-ya's"...

I'm very happy with the Ya-Ya's release. The original Ya-Ya's was recorded during 3 MSG shows, as well as Baltimore, so I don't know what you mean by the "full MSG concert."

I also don't care if there are finishing touches put on the bonus tracks. I'd rather pay to hear a finished product than what amounts to a demo with no vocals that I can already get on a bootleg.

I agree. The Ya-Ya's box is a great sounding set, and the bonus EP (that's what I see it as) and opening sets make it worth the money to me.

As regards the possibility of Mick recording a new vocal to finish an old studio track - would they not simply identify the fact by adding a parenthetical notation like [2009 vocal] or [New Vocal] or some such? Its hardly the first time such a thing would be done. The U2 re-issues always have identified such fix-ups. Surely nobody bought the U2 re-issues not knowing that? If they cant be bothered to read the packaging then caveat emptor! :)

I really hope Exile will be better than Ya-ya's. But the new 70s to 90s remasters were also average-to-awful depending on the album :shake:

    By the way ...

will we see Ladies And Gentlemen DVD at last?

It hasn't been released yet, and neverthless the BOOTLEG is being sold @ amazon

I suposse the 32-track multitracks still exist, as well the original quadraphonic mix. Don't know whether the full 2 concerts were filmed.

I'd be shocked if Mick would allow the DVD release of "Ladies & Gentlemen", although I agree that it is more than worthy of release. I have an "unofficial" copy & love it. That banner in the picture above kills me though ........ "in spectacular Quadrasound! Special concert sound equipment installed for this engagement!" :biglaugh:

I've seen a few different copies of this in varying quality, & even the best one does not sound that great, although that does not stop me from enjoying it.

Now if only Mick & the boys would realize just how much more grateful the fans would be if they would release some shows like this from the 70's on DVD rather than all of the offerings such as "Shine a Light" .........

When this opened at the Zigfield in NYC, they did have a special sound system installed. I honestly don't remember how good it sounded, but it was loud.

same as the Music Hall in Boston. Large sound system, a full house, frisbees flying, dope smoked. Just like a concert. Aaaaah, the olde daze.

  24. And The Stones have done this before; Mick put new vocals on the track "So Young" (which was recorded initially during SOME GIRLS) for its release as a bonus track on a few of the "Love Is Strong" CD singles.

The Ya-Ya's vinyl reissue is wonderful and quite a bit better than the cd's(which were included with the vinyl). Plus the book that came with it was worth the price for me. Hopefully there will be something similar with Exile.
