Absolutely the Moody Blues should be in there. Hopefully Genesis getting in shows a thawing in the Hall's anti art-rock bias. Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Yes and King Crimson all need to be inducted. And you can make a case for Procol Harum as well.

Which begs the question: Is ABBA being inducted because of their influence on rock 'n' roll or because the Hall views their music as rock 'n' roll?

..and the answer is: does it matter? :)

Abba, less influential on R&R than Suicide...

KISS deserved to be in before Abba, for sure...

There are many, many groups in the RnR HOF that are just as pop, if not more so, than ABBA. Not sure why everyone is so shocked about their induction. Michael Jackson is in twice for dog's sake!

In the overall scheme of things, no.

I'm just trying to understand because I don't. I'm trying to be as diplomatic as I can about it.

Not that it is saying much, but this is one of the highest quality overall lists in several years. And if it gets the original Genesis lineup onstage sometime that night, I'd suffer Gayla Peevey's induction!

I wouldn't say several years. It was only the last two that were weaker than most. 2001-2007 were quite strong.

Absolutely spot on with all counts.

I'm psyched that Genesis are getting in.

I'm very happy that ABBA is getting in. While they may not be a direct influence on a lot of rock musicians, they have plenty of fans in the biz. Gene Simmons has remarked that he's a big ABBA fan. And Ritchie Blackmore is an ABBA fanatic! Always has been. In fact, he nearly recorded some material with Agnetha Falstkog in the late 70s.

And yes, Deep Purple deserves it as much as anyone.

Noel Gallagher too. I'm sure loads more rock stars love Abba than don't.

I always mention that Todd should be in, but it's hard not to be at least a little satisfied to see folks like Tony Banks and Steve Hackett get in (as part of Genesis of course).

    Kurt Cobain loved Abba.

Another point that is made time and time again, is that not every HOF band or artist is "rock and roll."
Abba rocked as much as the Beach Boys, would it make sense never to induct them?

:righton: "The Classic Seven" albums of The Moody Blues.

Also, the Terry-Kath era Chicago (1969-1977)

They are being by-passed and ignored again in favour of Madonna and Abba!

What a bummer! Are R&R Hall OF Fame voting committee ***s?

Ow! That actually made my head hurt, but if that is what y'all are hearing, I can't argue with that. I disagree with it in the strongest possible terms, but music is subjective, after all.

I'm glad that somebody was able to make an analogy that explains it, though. It makes sense to me now.

Just somebody please warn me if Tom Jones, Bette Midler, Carly Simon, or Air Supply are about to get inducted. I don't want to go through this again.

Maybe it was Abacab and Phil Collins work on the Lion King that gave them the advantage over Yes, The Moody Blues, ELP and King Crimson. Maybe they have come to grips with the fact that their anti prog rock bias has made the R&RHOF a bit of a joke.

good for the hollies, hopefully alan clarke can be there.

have to wonder though, abba and the stooges, yet no chicago, moody blues, yes, dan fogelberg and jethro tull. can't see in any way how the first 2 were more influential, talented or popular than the last 5.

I like most of these acts.... but we're a long way from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan at this point.

The Stooges influenced The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Joan Jett, R.E.M, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nirvana, among others.

    It's foolish to compare.

I love both ABBA and Deep Purple.

Oooh... I just realized this opens up the possibility of a Phil Collins and Frida reunion for "Something's Going On". :goodie:
