Agree totally, but Deep Purple wasn't even nominated this year.

Kiss was. While they are not as good as Deep Purple, they are certainly better than ABBA!

    This is an embarrassment.

You know who I was thinking about for this category: Max Yasgur.

Can't argue with his, at least, three-day influence.

I'm of the opinion that the Stooges should have been inducted ages ago, but better late than never. Wonder who will give their induction speech?

Although I don't own a single ABBA disc, I can't believe all the hate for them on the forum. Just look at their track record. They should of been inducted long ago.

Maybe Genesis getting in will start the prog ball rolling in. And Abba is a great pick. But no Deep Purple is a bit of an atrocity.

Been a Cooper fan since 1972. He should be in there WAAAYYYY before groups like ABBA. Their only influece on rock and roll would be the way they caused punk to happen.

I'm thinking it was their RRHOF performance of Madonna tunes that finally got the hall to give The Stooges the nod.

Sounds good. I'd put up Brian Epstein, too.

Yay to Otis Blackwell's induction. :righton:

Abba and DP both deserve to be in.

That was two years ago. I thought it would be the deciding factor for sure, but was stunned when they were passed over again last year. At least they are finally getting in. Ridiculous. Hell, even Wanda Jackson only got in last year. "Early influence". What the hell?

Some of us find ABBA's music to be the opposite of rock 'n' roll. Bubbly pop music that would have existed even if rock 'n' roll had never been invented. I, also, can't think of a significant rock act that was influenced by ABBA. I can think of people like Ace Of Base or the Spice Girls, but not much else.

I would like to see someone make a case, though. They were wildly successful. I just don't think they are rock 'n' roll.

If ABBA can be inducted, The Carpenters can't be far behind.

Or an award for the Hell's Angel who stabbed that guy at Altamont.

I'm happy for all the inductees.

A true rock n' roll fan will not discount the influence that 'pop' music has contributed to the genre. It seems to me that 'rock" music fans are the ones that often apply a very narrow definition to the genre. Rock n' roll is the name on the door to the hall. "Rock' music (as it became known in the late 60's/early 70's) is a sub division that qualifies - but does not define rock n' roll.
